Tesla has announced the new six-seater Model Y L for the Malaysian market, with the model now making its public debut at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. While firm pricing has yet to be confirmed, Tesla stated that indicative pricing for the Model Y L starts at RM260,000, with deliveries estimated to begin in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026.
Originally launched in China in August 2025, the Tesla Model Y L might pass for the standard five-seater Model Y at a glance, but it is actually slightly larger than its sibling. To install the third row, Tesla extended the wheelbase by 150 mm and bumped the roofline up by 44 mm to provide enough headroom for the extra occupants.

While the official Malaysian configurator has yet to go online, Tesla has confirmed that the Model Y L will feature several exterior distinctions. Most notably, the variant arrives with an exclusive Cosmic Silver paint option and a redesigned rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics.
Referencing the specifications of the Model Y L recently launched in Australia, which is expected to mirror the Malaysian offering, the Model Y L will likely be available in a familiar palette alongside the new silver. These options include Stealth Grey as the probable standard, with Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, and Ultra Red available as optional extras in typical Tesla fashion. Like the regional models, the Malaysian-spec Model Y L is expected to sit exclusively on 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels.

Other exterior features include a multi-link suspension system with adaptive damping and laminated safety glass on the cabin windows and panoramic sunroof, alongside tinted safety glass with a metallic infrared-reflective coating across the large panoramic roof. Completing the exterior trimmings is a hands-free powered tailgate, which provides access to the rear cargo area that has a maximum cargo capacity of 2,539 litres with all seats folded down.
The interior of the Tesla Model Y L is configured in a 2+2+2 layout, featuring individual chairs in the second row, and a two-seater bench in the third row. The individual chairs are equipped with power-retractable armrests, ventilation, and heating, alongside power-recline and folding functions. Also new for the Model Y L is a new interior colour option called Zen Grey, that based on the Australian configurator, replaces the Black and White option offered on the Model Y. The All Black option remains available, and likely remains as the standard interior colour scheme for the Tesla Model Y L.

These new interior trimmings are joined by a 16-inch central touchscreen, a unit that has since been integrated into the standard Model Y as part of the 2026 update. Below the display, a revised wireless charging pad features active ventilation to support fast charging at 50W for the driver and 30W for the passenger. For occupants seated in the third row, dedicated air vents are located in the B- and C-pillars for improved comfort, and an eight-inch touchscreen is provided for second-row passengers to manage climate and media settings.
Other interior features of the Tesla Model Y L include:
- 19-speaker sound system
- Textile upholstery
- 16-inch centre infotainment display
- First-row seats with power recline, power tilt, heating, ventilation, and thigh-extension
- Footwell and door pocket ambient lighting
- Wrap-around ambient lighting
- Eight-inch touchscreen display for second-row occupants
- Second-row seating with power two-way folding and heating
- Power-actuated first- and second-row air vents
Powering the Tesla Model Y L is a dual-motor powertrain, which enables 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, and a top speed of 201 km/h. In classic Tesla fashion, no detailed powertrain specifications were disclosed, although the American carmaker quoted a range of 681 km (WLTP). Reportedly, the Model Y L can regain up to 288 km of range within 15 minutes, when recharging with the marque’s Supercharger network.
As usual, the Tesla Model Y L is equipped with the marque’s Basic Autopilot safety systems as standard, which includes features like autosteer and traffic-aware cruise control. Looking at Tesla’s lineup in Malaysia, customers should be able to upgrade this to Enhanced Autopilot, which supports driver-initiated and assisted driving from highway on-ramp to off-ramp, lane changes, overtaking, and autopark. Full Self-Driving (FSD) is also expected to be available as an option, although the full suite of autonomous driving features are not available in Malaysia at the moment.
The Tesla Model Y L is expected to launch in Malaysia with an indicative starting price of RM260,000, with deliveries scheduled to commence in Q2 2026. Tesla also states that the Malaysian online configurator for the Model Y L is expected to go live shortly, allowing interested customers to finalise their specifications and place their orders in the immediate future.
