Recognise Paul Smith? Those in the fashion industry will recognise him as an icon of British tailoring. Now, MINI Malaysia is bringing that same “Icon with a Twist” philosophy to the tarmac with the new all-electric MINI Paul Smith Edition, which can be yours priced at RM228,522, on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of the extended warranty programme. However, if you want one, you’d better be quick because it is only available in limited numbers.
Available in two distinct paint jobs, Inspired White and Statement Grey, the former is a modern interpretation of the classic Pepper White. The latter tips its hat to the 1959 MINI Austin Seven, though if we are being honest, Statement Grey looks remarkably like a light blue paint job that just happens to have “Grey” in the name. However, if you are looking for a dazzling paint job like the one featured back in the late nineties, you are out of luck.
Realistically, that riot of stripes probably would not adhere to legal regulations anyway. Instead, this edition settles for Nottingham Green accents on the mirrors and grille, saving the famous Paul Smith Signature Stripe for the roof edge and interior details.
Stepping inside, the interior is a dense forest of deliberate design choices. You are held in place by Nightshade Blue JCW Sports seats wrapped in Vescin upholstery, featuring a Shadow Stripe knit on the shoulders to remind you that you’re in a special MINI Cooper.
Before you even climb in, the car projects a friendly “hello” in Paul Smith’s actual handwriting onto the pavement. Once you cross the door sills, which are emblazoned with the uplifting reminder that “Every day is a new beginning!”, you are greeted by the circular 240mm centre infotainment display. This MINI Interaction Unit offers three exclusive backgrounds designed by the man himself, with his iconic Signature Stripe subtly integrated into the digital interface.
Otherwise, the powertrain department remains identical to the existing MINI Cooper SE. It features a front-mounted electric motor producing 218 hp and 330 Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. Equipped with a 54.2 kWh battery, the MINI Paul Smith Edition has a range of 402 km (WLTP). Charging is supported with 11 kW AC and 95 kW DC, with the latter enabling a 10-80% recharge in under 30 minutes.
The MINI Paul Smith Edition is priced at RM228,522, inclusive of the MINI Service and Repair Inclusive (MSRI) programme that comes with a four-year unlimited mileage warranty, a six-year unlimited mileage service coverage, and an eight-year high-voltage battery warranty.
Opting for the MINI Paul Smith Edition without MSRI drops the sticker price to RM222,222, and comes included with a standard two-year warranty.
