Video: 2025 Perodua QV-E electric car – a new era has begun!

Perodua has launched the Perodua QV-E — Malaysia’s first-ever homegrown electric vehicle. Priced at RM80,000 on the road and without insurance, it debuts a new ownership model called “Battery as a Service” (BaaS) where buyers own the car but lease the battery from Perodua by paying a monthly fee of RM275

While some may find electric vehicles (EVs) visually dull, the Perodua QV-E is anything but, thanks to its angular fastback silhouette and blacked-out side pillars that create a floating roof effect. Bold side haunches and dual-tone 18-inch wheels enhance its sporty stance, while full-width front and rear full-width lights with LED illumination add a touch of sophistication.

Inside, the Perodua QV-E is fitted with dual 10.25-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and centre infotainment — the latter with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. It gets a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel and features a layered centre console that contains ample storage spaces, charging ports, a wireless charging pad, and a rotary gear selector.

The Perodua QV-E is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 204 hp and 285 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 165 km/h.

Energy comes from a 52.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering up to 445 km of NEDC range. Charging options include 6.6 kW AC charging for a full charge in around eight hours, or 60 kW DC fast charging, which replenishes the battery from 30-80% in just 30 minutes. The QV-E also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function for powering external devices on the go.

Notably, BaaS is a lease programme in which Perodua retains ownership of the battery pack while customers purchase the vehicle itself at RM80,000. Under this arrangement, buyers must sign a nine‑year lease agreement and pay a fixed monthly fee of around RM275 for the battery. Payment is combined into a single monthly instalment through the bank, so owners don’t need to make separate payments for the battery lease.
