Smart #5 to launch in Malaysia on 14 November – Premium and Brabus variants, Pro coming later?

Pro-Net, the new energy arm of national carmaker Proton, and the official distributor of Smart vehicles in the country, has announced in a Facebook post that the Smart #5 will launch in Malaysia this Friday, 14 November 2025. Already open for booking, the model will be available in Premium and Brabus variants at launch – although a third entry-level Pro variant was also mentioned during the model’s media preview, which could hint at its arrival at a later date.

Measuring at 4,705 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, 1,705 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, the Smart #5 is positioned as a D-segment SUV, and Smart’s largest to date. It’s built on Geely’s SEA3/PMA2+ architecture, found on the Zeekr 7X, but is packaged in a boxier and rugged form compared to its Geely counterpart, as well as its its smaller #1 and #3 siblings.

The LED headlights are linked by a dotted light strip reminiscent of larger pickup trucks like the Ford F-150. At the rear, the taillights echo the front with a matching shape and the same dotted light signature. As standard, the Premium variant rides on 20-inch wheels, while the Brabus variant steps up to 21-inch “Monoblock Z” alloys for a more premium appearance.

Inside, the Smart #5 is equipped with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, accompanied by dual 13-inch 2.5K AMOLED displays — one for the central infotainment system and another for the front passenger. Higher-end variants also gain a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display. Powered by an AMD V2000 automotive chipset, the system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, integrates ChatGPT, and offers over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Other creature comforts include a panoramic sunroof, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, Nappa leather upholstery paired with open-pore wood panels, and a 20-speaker Sennheiser sound system.

On the Brabus variant, the leather upholstery will be replaced with Dinamica microfibre for a sportier feel, alongside faux carbon fibre trims, and red accent stitching and seat belts. The car will benefit from these sporty add-ons on the outside with Brabus badges and sportier bodykits with red accents.

The Premium variant is powered by a single rear-mounted motor that produces 363 hp and 373 Nm of torque. Paired with a 100 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) ternary battery, it delivers an impressive 590 km (WLTP) of range.

Stepping up to the Brabus variant, the setup adds a front motor for dual-motor all-wheel drive, boosting output to 646 hp and 710 Nm. This allows for a brisk 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h, though range drops slightly to 540 km (WLTP) due to the added performance.

Both the Premium and Brabus variants share an 800V electrical architecture, supporting 22 kW AC and 450 kW DC charging. Charging from 10-80% takes about 4.5 hours on AC or just 15 minutes using DC fast charging.

As for the Pro variant, which is also expected to join the lineup later, it features a single rear motor rated at 340 hp and 373 Nm, achieving 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Power comes from a smaller 76 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering up to 465 km (WLTP) of range.

Safety-wise, the Smart #5 comes with an improved advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that surpasses those of its smaller siblings. The setup includes higher-resolution cameras, five radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, dual Nvidia Drive Orin X chips, and an additional rear-facing camera. Together, these enable features such as front and rear autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, and fully autonomous parking.
