Shortly after its regulatory filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) a few weeks ago, GWM has now officially unveiled the GWM Ora 5 in China. Looking essentially like an Ora Good Cat on stilts, the car is positioned as a compact electric vehicle (EV) SUV and will be the brand’s first mass-produced electric SUV.
Measuring 4,471 mm in length, 1,833 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, The GWM Ora 5 is most certainly bigger than the Good Cat and measures closer in line with the BYD Atto 3. It carries on the brand’s “Cat Family” design but features more pronounced side haunches and more sculpted bumper designs compared to the smaller Good Cat.
Apart from its size, other ways to tell apart the GWM Ora 5 from the Good Cat can be seen through its roof rails, and 18-inch dual-tone wheels. Unlike the Good Cat, the tailgate now carries the “GWM” emblem in line with the brand’s broader “One GWM” strategy, while the original “ORA” lettering has been moved to the bottom-left corner of the tailgate. The GWM Ora 5 is available in six exterior colour options in China: Aurora Green, Senna Grey, Lake Sayram Blue, Cliff White, Sand Dune Beige, and Linzhi Red.
Moving inside, the GWM Ora 5 sports a new interior design that GWM says is “inspired by Eastern traditional Chinese painting”. It features fabric panels, a large floating central infotainment display, and is paired with a digital instrument cluster. GWM says the system is fitted with the brand’s third-generation Coffee operating system and comes with Coffee GPT and Deepseek AI voice assistants.

Inside, highlights include a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, column-mounted gearshift lever, wireless charging pad, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof. The seats recline up to 128 degrees with a leg rest for added comfort, while interior colour options include Dawn White, Midday Brown, and Starry Night Gray.
The GWM Ora 5 was revealed to feature 201 hp (150 kW). Unfortunately, GWM has not disclosed many details of the car’s powertrain, but did mention that it sources power from a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery.

In China, the GWM Ora 5 is fitted with a roof-mounted Lidar sensor and is further supported by an array of front, side, and rear cameras for its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This runs on GWM’s third-generation Coffee Pilot Ultra system, which the company claims is capable of features such as urban and highway navigation on autopilot (NOA).
