All-new 2025 Proton X50 launched – 181 hp inline-4 turbo, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, from RM90k

After a long period of slow-drip information, Proton has now finally launched the all-new 2025 Proton X50, with a sticker price starting from RM89,800 on-the-road, without insurance. The national brand’s new B-segment SUV is available in three variants.

The new sticker price for the X50 is RM3,500 cheaper for the Executive variant, whereas the Premium and Flagship variants retain the pricing of the outgoing model. That said, since the Standard variant is no longer available, the entry point to the model is now RM3,500 higher than before.

  • Proton X50 Executive – RM89,800

The all-new Proton X50 shares its exterior design with the Geely Binyue L, a model that was launched as a facelift in China last year. Despite its origins as a facelifted model, Proton is marketing the new X50 as an “all-new” model, stating that sufficient changes have been made to justify the title.

The biggest change with the all-new Proton X50 is its new powertrain. A 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine now comes as standard across all variants, replacing the much-maligned three-cylinder units.

The new engine produces 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque. This represents a 4 hp and 35 Nm increase over the previous range-topping direct-injection (TGDi) engine, and a significant 34 hp and 64 Nm increase over the old port-injection (MPI) variants.

Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) sending power to the front wheels, the new X50 completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.6 seconds—a 0.3-second improvement over the outgoing flagship model.

Outside, the Proton X50’s exterior features a bold new front fascia, designed to create the illusion of a gigantic front grille, thanks to a bold pattern of horizontal slats. Towards the rear, the all-new 2025 Proton X50 features a new full-width taillight design and retains its quad-exhaust outlets—a feature that is perhaps more sensible now given the new four-cylinder engine. On the top-spec Flagship variant, a black rear spoiler is added to complete the sporty look.

Standard exterior equipment on the Proton X50 includes:

  • New front grille
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs) and full-width taillights
  • Automatic windshield wipers
  • Body coloured side mirrors

Stepping up to the Premium variant of the Proton X50 gains the following exterior equipment:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Powered tailgate
  • Roof rails
  • Front welcome lamps
  • Red brake callipers

Stepping up to the Flagship variant of the Proton X50 gains the following exterior equipment:

  • Rear spoiler
  • Dual-tone exterior
  • Side mirrors finished in glossy black
  • Panoramic sunroof

The interior of the all-new Proton X50 has also been completely reworked, now featuring a design inspired by the Proton eMAS 7. Dominating the dashboard is a central 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto right from launch. The previous semi-digital gauge cluster has been replaced by a new 8.88-inch letterbox-style digital instrument cluster for the driver.

The centre console has also been redesigned. Gear selection is now handled by a steering column-mounted shift lever, freeing up space on the centre console for a phone holder, incorporating a new wireless charging pad on the Flagship variant. Two central air-conditioning vents are now located neatly below the large infotainment display.

Standard interior equipment of the Proton X50 Executive includes:

  • Fabric upholstery
  • Six-speaker sound system
  • Automatic climate control with N95 cabin filter
  • Four USB ports
  • 14.6-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster

Stepping up to the Premium variant of the Proton X50 adds the following interior equipment:

  • Leatherette upholstery
  • Six-way power adjustable driver seat

Stepping up to the Flagship variant of the Proton X50 adds the following interior equipment:

  • Semi-transparent sun visor
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Dual-tone interior

In terms of safety, all variants of the all-new Proton X50 are now equipped with some level of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). However, buyers will need to opt for the Executive variant and above to enjoy the full suite of safety features, while the range-topping Flagship variant exclusively adds an auto park assist function.

The Proton X50 Executive is equipped with the following ADAS features:

  • Lane change assist
  • Rear collision warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Door opening warning
  • Reverse camera

Stepping up to the Premium and Flagship variants see the Proton X50 gains the following ADAS features:

Included in the price is a five-year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty, a five-year data package (2GB/month), and six free labour services.

In conjunction with the Proton X50 launch, the national brand has three special launch packages for the SUV, which include a trade-in overtrade support up to RM2,000 for the first 10,000 customers, special financing packages, an upgraded Proton insurance programme, and a RM4,000 rebate, which drops the sticker price of the Proton X50 down to:
