Chery Australia has unveiled the facelifted Chery Omoda 5, which also comes with a new name for the SUV, now called the Omoda C5 in Australia.
The Omoda 5 facelift was previously revealed in Russia under the Omoda brand. In Australia, the Omoda C5 is offered in two variants, priced from AUD29,990 (approx. RM82k) to AUD34,990 (approx. RM96k).
As part of the facelift, the Omoda C5 now features a new front grille design and daytime running lights (DRLs) styled according to Chery’s new “Art in Motion” design language. Additionally, the controversial red accents, present on the pre-facelift model, have been removed.
Moving inside, the Australian-spec Omoda C5 still sports the pre-facelift interior, which consists of dual 10.25-inch displays for the infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto and the driver’s digital gauge cluster.

However, the changes beneath the surface are more apparent. These changes include a new multi-link rear suspension setup, replacing the torsion beam setup found on the pre-facelift Chery Omoda 5 in Malaysia.
In terms of powertrain, the Omoda C5 in Australia is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 147 hp and 210 Nm. This engine is paired with a new six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) driving the front wheels, replacing the CVT gearbox found in the Omoda 5 available in Malaysia.
Closer to home in Malaysia, the pre-facelift Chery Omoda 5 is available in two variants and is priced from RM99,800 to RM118,800. Powering the Omoda 5 in Malaysia is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 156 hp and 230 Nm, paired to a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.
For comparison, the Chery Omoda 5 in Malaysia is 9 hp and 20 Nm more powerful than the Omoda C5 in Australia. Considering that the Chery Omoda 5 was launched in Malaysia back in 2023, the introduction of the facelift might not be too far off.
Locally in Malaysia, Jaecoo Malaysia has been rebranded to Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia and have already introduced the Omoda C7 under the new umbrealla. It’s safe to expect the Omoda C5 to follow suit when it’s introduced in Malaysia. Omoda vehicles will no longer be sold under Chery Malaysia.
