China’s best-selling car in April is the Geely Xingyuan a.k.a Proton eMAS 5


China’s passenger vehicle market recorded over 1.755 million sales in April, according to CarNewsChina

Specifically, 821,000 sedans and hatchbacks were sold, marking a 13.3% year-on-year increase. SUV sales reached 847,000 units, showing a 16.4% year-on-year increase while MPV sales amounted to 86,000 units, up 7.1% year-on-year.

Notably, the fully electric (EV) Geely Xingyuan, slated for a Malaysian launch as the Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5), continues its reign as the best-selling vehicle in China. It holds the top spot from March through April with 36,119 units sold in April and a January to April year-to-date (YTD) sales volume of 125,334 units. This compact EV hatchback also recently celebrated reaching the 200,000 unit production milestone.

The second best-selling car in China for April was the BYD Seagull, with 34,005 units sold and in third place was the Wuling Hongguang Mini, with 28,990 units sold.

In the SUV segment, the top seller in China for April was the Geely Xingyue L, with 23,658 units sold and a YTD of 103,541 units. This model is a slightly smaller counterpart to the Proton X90, known as the Geely Haoyue in China.

The second most popular SUV in China was the BYD Song Plus, with 20,668 units sold. This SUV is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) relative of the BYD Sealion 7 sold in Malaysia. Rounding out the top three best-selling SUVs in China was the Tesla Model Y, with 19,984 units sold in April.

In the MPV segment, the Denza D9, which has also been launched in Malaysia, recorded 9,045 units sold in April followed by the Toyota Sienna, with 8,248 units sold. The third best-selling MPV was the Voyah Dreamer, with 6,719 units sold.
