If you’re wondering what a fully electric (EV) Volvo XC90 would look like, the Volvo EX90 is the answer. Volvo Cars Malaysia (VCM) has previewed the EX90, and bookings are now open for the all-new fully electric SUV from the Swedish carmaker – alongside the new 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift.
The exterior design of the Volvo EX90 showcases Volvo’s latest design language, which will underscore all of its future electric models, including the Volvo EX30. Like the latter, the taillights on the EX90 also come with split vertical elements on the rear windscreen.
There are also the signature Volvo Thor’s hammer headlights with a pixelated design, but those on the Volvo EX90 can split open to reveal the headlights hidden within. This is just like a modernised version of those classic pop-up headlights!
Inside the Volvo EX90, you’ll find an interior that undoubtedly reflects Swedish minimalism. There’s a centre 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and unlike the Volvo EX30, the driver gets a letterbox-style digital gauge cluster.

In terms of powertrains, the Volvo EX90 is available with two options globally. These are dual-motor setups with all-wheel drive (AWD). The first is a base Twin Motor configuration, offering 408 hp (300 kW) and 770 Nm from its two motors for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds.
The Twin Motor Performance variant, with its increased power of 517 hp (380 kW) and 910 Nm, achieves a 0-100 km/h sprint a second faster at 4.9 seconds. But, in the end, it doesn’t make a big difference, as both variants share the same 180 km/h top speed.

Both powertrain variants are powered by the same 111 kWh (107 kWh net usable) nickel manganese cobalt ternary battery pack, providing a WLTP range of 600 km for the base variant and 590 km (WLTP) for the Performance variant.
Charging is supported with AC charging at 11 kW and DC charging at 250 kW. The latter enables a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.
All said, how much does the Volvo EX90 cost? Well, according to VCM, the EX90 is estimated to be priced at RM450,000. We won’t have to wait long, as the official Malaysia launch of the Volvo EX90 will happen very soon, so stay tuned for our official launch coverage.
