Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has revealed the specs for the Nissan Kicks e-Power, which will be launched here in Malaysia very soon. The facelifted first-generation Nissan Kicks will be fully-imported (CBU) from Thailand.
The Nissan Kicks e-Power runs like an electric vehicle (EV), but isn’t actually an EV. It is powered by Nissan’s second-generation e-Power system. It uses its 1.2-litre engine as a generator to charge the car’s 2.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. The battery then powers the electric motor, producing 129 hp and 280 Nm.
The second-generation e-Power system comes with a more powerful electric motor for improved acceleration, and its components are smaller and lighter overall.
The Nissan Kicks e-Power’s range is claimed to be 900 km. On our drive down to Melaka from Nissan’s showroom in PJ, we covered 224 km with 409 km range remaining; using just a quarter tank of fuel.
Nissan says fuel consumption is 21.7 km/L, throughout our journey we averaged 17.5 km/L. The Kick’s fuel tank is 41 litres, while boot size is rated at 423L. Nissan says it can fit up to five luggages; three 20-inch cabin luggage, one 24-inch luggage and one 28-inch luggage.
The Nissan Kicks e-Power will be offered in three variants here in Malaysia – the VL (Mid Grade), the VLT (High Grade) and VLT (High Grade two-tone). Colour options include Red Pearl, Sunrise Orange, Brilliant Silver, Brilliant White Pearl, and Black Star.
All three variants come with automatic LED headlamps, LED fog lights, auto-folding side mirrors and 17-inch wheels. The highest VLT (High Grade two-tone) gets a dual-tone body colour, where the roof is blacked out.

Inside, the Kicks is very much like the new Nissan Almera. It comes with Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats, an eight-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch digital meter, three USB ports, and six speakers. The seats are manually adjusted; six-way for the driver and four-way for the front passenger.
The VL (Mid Grade) comes with fabric seats and moving up to the VLT (High Grade), the Kicks is added with two-tone brown and black leather seats.
The VLT (High Grade) also comes with a 360-degree camera, Intelligent Rear View Monitor, Intelligent Cruise Control, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.
Prices have not been revealed but it’s certainly worth a test drive. It was smooth and nice to drive, felt stable, comfortable, and really fuel efficient. Stay tuned.
