The Omoda C9 – now without the Chery branding and is curiously sold via Jaecoo Malaysia – is a D-segment SUV based on the Exeed RX in China. And in case you weren’t aware, Exeed is Chery’s luxury sub-brand in its home country, so you can already see where this is going.
Not only does it look the part, the Omoda C9 also comes loaded to the brim with premium-grade equipment, including 20-inch two-tone wheels, leather upholstery with integrated speakers in the front seats’ headrests, powered adjustments for the rear seats, a giant panoramic sunroof, 14-speaker Sony sound system, and even heated seats for the rear passengers – not that you’ll find much use for it in Malaysia.
Underneath the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, making 257 hp and 400 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful SUVs in its price range. The Omoda C9 will be available in both front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive configurations, both paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with gearshift paddles located behind the steering wheel.
