Porsche Carrera Cup Asia: series’ first-ever Endurance Challenge takes place at Sepang Circuit


The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia recently concluded its triple-header event (round 9, 10, and 11) at Sepang International Circuit. The series showcased intense competition among 29 cars, delivering thrilling races for fans. The weekend also witness the first-ever Endurance Challenge.

Mathys Jaubert secured pole position for TORO Racing in Round 9, but Alessandro Ghiretti, the 2024 Porsche Junior in the #55 Team Jebsen car, quickly overtook the lead after the start. Despite securing pole position, Alessandro Ghiretti faced a 10-second penalty, allowing Mathys Jaubert to claim his first Porsche Carrera Cup Asia victory. Marco Giltrap and Rodrigo Dias Almeida achieved their maiden podium finishes for Team Porsche New Zealand and R&B Racing, respectively.

Bao Jinlong extended his dominance in the Pro-Am class, securing both the class win and an overall fourth-place finish in Round 9. His Phantom Global Racing teammate, Zhang Yaqi, joined him on the podium, along with Li Xuanyu from Z.SPEED Motorsport.

The Am class competition intensified between Eric Kwong and Munkong Sathienthirakul, with Kwong securing a narrow victory over his rival. Henry Kwong from Triple ACE Racing completed the podium.

The night race for Round 10 treated spectators to a thrilling spectacle as 29 cars competed under the Sepang circuit lights. Starting from pole position, Alessandro Ghiretti was overtaken by Dylan Pereira, who executed a remarkable start from the third row to claim the lead. Despite intense competition, Pereira managed to maintain his position, securing his first victory of the season.

A spin for Bao Jinlong disrupted his Pro-Am dominance, allowing Liu Kai Shun from R&B Racing to secure his first championship win. Eric Zang claimed second for TORO Racing, with Zhang Yaqi finishing third.

The Am class witnessed a closely contested battle between Sathienthirakul and Eric Kwong, with Sathienthirakul emerging victorious by a narrow margin. Henry Kwong completed the podium in third place.

The final day of the event marked a thrilling debut for the endurance race format. Challenging wet conditions created an exciting battle for the lead, with Ghiretti capitalizing on Jaubert’s early mistake. Two safety car periods, triggered by separate incidents, punctuated the race. Despite these interruptions, intense competition for podium positions continued among Azman, Ragginger, and Lu Wenlong. Ultimately, Azman secured a provisional third place before a post-race penalty elevated Ragginger to the podium.

Liu Kai Shun secured his second Pro-Am victory of the weekend, finishing ahead of Zang and Bao. Bao, representing Phantom Global Racing, recovered from a challenging qualifying session to claim the final podium spot. The Am category reached a thrilling climax as Eric Kwong overtook Munkong Sathienthirakul on the final lap to secure victory. Henry Kwong completed the podium with a third-place finish.

Alessandro Ghiretti maintains his championship lead with a 20-point advantage over Jaubert. Bao Jinlong holds a comfortable lead in the Pro-Am class, while Eric Kwong and Munkong Sathienthirakul are closely contested in the Am category. The series will resume at the Marina Bay Street Circuit for the final two rounds.

The event also highlighted Porsche’s commitment to nurturing young talent through the Technology Transfer Apprenticeship Program (TTAP), offering aspiring mechanics and engineers valuable hands-on experience in motorsport. The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season continues with Rounds 12 and 13, supporting the Singapore Grand Prix at the iconic Marina Bay Circuit.
