Tesla has returned to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur with an expanded showcase. In addition to the popular Model 3 and Model Y, the event features the Malaysia debut of the brand’s robot, namely the Optimus.
Tesla is hosting a public event from August 6 to August 11 to showcase its latest innovations. Attendees will have the opportunity to witness Tesla’s cutting-edge technology firsthand, including the Tesla Optimus robot and the Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles. Additionally, Tesla is offering limited-time financing options for its vehicle lineup.
The Optimus represents a significant step forward in humanoid robotics. It is designed to perform mundane and hazardous tasks. The robot’s human-like form allows it to interact with human-centric tools. Leveraging Tesla’s expertise in artificial intelligence, Optimus is equipped with advanced capabilities for navigation and task execution. While still in its developmental stages, the robot holds the potential to revolutionize industries.
The Optimus showcased in Malaysia is the Gen 1 model which was unveiled in March 2023. This preceded the introduction of the more advanced Gen 2 version, which debuted in December of the same year. The Gen 1 Optimus features a distinctive V-shaped design element on its chest, while the Gen 2 adopts a more human-like aesthetic with a Tesla logo and sculpted torso. Both models showcase advancements in robotic design and engineering.
According to Analytics Insight, the Gen 1 robot is 173 cm tall and weighs 57 kg, while the Gen 2 robot is marginally taller and heavier, at 178 cm tall and 59 kg. The Gen 1 Optimus is capable of basic locomotor abilities, including walking, waving, and dancing. The Gen 2 saw an advancement that enhanced its dexterity in its arms, hands, and fingers. This increased skill allows more complex tasks such as object manipulation and maintaining specific postures.
