Video: 2024 Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain review – Redefining what a ‘car’ should be!

Like our phones, we’re also asking a lot more of our cars these days. Not only are they our main mode of transport, they’re also our shopping carts, status symbol, and for some people, even their (temporary) homes – that’s probably why pickup trucks are now so sought-after these days, even if all you’re doing is moping about the city.

So as any self-respecting media outlet would, we asked (read: begged, nicely) Isuzu for the keys to their new D-Max X-Terrain to find out – for you, dear viewers – just why they’re so popular.

The Isuzu D-Max was recently updated in Malaysia, with the range-topping X-Terrain variant getting the most goodies. There’s now a significantly updated design, updated equipment list, and even an improved advanced driver assistance suite, powered by a new fourth-generation stereo camera setup.

But perhaps more impressively, even its drivetrain has also been updated – with a new software system called “Rough Terrain Mode” that makes off-roading even more effortless than before.

One thing that’s not changed, is the powertrain underneath the bonnet. But that’s probably a good thing, given Isuzu’s acclaimed bulletproof reliability. The range-topping X-Terrain variant here gets the 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel mill, with 190 hp and 450 Nm on offer.

The new 2024 Isuzu D-Max starts at RM98,949 for the workhorse variant, and for this range-topping X-Terrain, that’ll be RM157,938 on-the-road, without insurance. Watch the full review to see if the car is for you!
