Not long after the debut of the Kia EV9, the Korean company has now unveiled the Kia Concept EV5, previewing a smaller electric SUV with a strong resemblance to its larger sibling. Only a concept for now, the production version of the EV5 will make its debut in China later this year.
The front of the Concept EV5 end features the brand’s new form of the “Digital Tiger Face”. A thin horizontal ‘grille’ spans across the front end’s width and so do the headlights. The entire horizontal piece is illuminated and is well integrated with the headlight cluster. The Concept EV5 gets claddings all around and sits on a set of 21-inch wheels.
Despite the futuristic look, the Concept EV5 still uses side mirrors instead of side cameras. The side profile looks similar to the EV9 with interesting but not too complex surfaces. Like the EV9, the Concept EV5 employs a ‘floating roof’ styling. From the rear end, it seems that the Concept EV5 has taken inspiration from Polestar or even Renault.
Head of Kia Global Design Center, Karim Habib said, “The Kia Concept EV5 takes influence from the contrast and complementarity of natural landscapes and man-made architecture. It is designed to inspire our customers on every journey, while providing sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions. Created for those who seek inventive new ideas, the SUV brings together emotional form language with innovative, user-focused interior architecture.”

Inside the Kia Concept EV5 features a completely flat floor, something almost expected from a dedicated electric car. Kia says the generous cabin of the Concept EV5 creates a ‘space of coexistence’ where “nature, people, and technology can come together”. The interior design employs themes of “Healing, Caring, and Re-charging”. The Kia Concept EV5 is apparently equipped with swivelling seats that “breaks down barriers between outdoor and indoor spaces to afford uninterrupted views of nature”.
Only a concept for now, no technical details have been revealed. With the debut of the Kia EV9, the Concept EV5 doesn’t look so extreme in comparison. The production model of the EV5 will be released first in the Chinese market later this year. Details regarding any future plans for the other global markets will be made in due course.
