Mazda will be showing a few concepts & new Mazda 3 at Tokyo Auto Salon

As we are coming to the end of 2018, carmakers are already gearing up for events in 2019. One of the first large-scale automotive events for the new calendar year is the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon and Mazda has already jumped the gun on what they will be bringing to the show.

Other than the first public debut of the all-new Mazda 3, Mazda will also be showing four other design concepts – Mazda 3, CX-5 and CX-8 Custom Style as well as Mazda Roadster Drop-Head Coupe Concept. The latter is essentially an MX-5 ND with a detachable roof just like previous generation models.

The MX-5 Drop-Head Coupe Concept is an alternative to the MX-5 RF that comes with a folding mechanism for the hard top. The carbon roof of the Drop-Head Coupe can be completely removed to create a sleek and unobstructed roadster silhouette just like the soft top MX-5.

Other items on the concept car include extended front and side skirts, towing hook, 16-inch Rays forged aluminium wheels, Recaro bucket seats, revised interior trim and aluminium sports pedals. Performance enhancing components read LSD, upgraded clutch set, lighter flywheel, air filter and reinforced bushings.

The 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon also marks the Japanese debut of the new Mazda 3. The Hiroshima based carmaker is also upping the ante with the display of the Mazda 3 Custom Style that wears a bespoke exterior aero kit, 18-inch BBS forged aluminium wheels and aluminium sports pedals.

Down the line, the Custom Style treatment is also extended to the CX-5 and CX-8. Both SUVs wears additional front, side and rear underskirt, aluminium sports pedals, welcome lamp, illuminated scuff plate and luggage end plate. The CX-8 also gains a new 20-inch aluminium wheel design.
