BMW M2 not enough downforce? There’s a new Track Package for that

Ever found yourself lapping the Sepang Circuit in your BMW M2 and wishing for a bit more downforce to keep up with the Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS? Neither have I. But if that’s your situation, or might be if you’re eyeing a new G87 BMW M2, your worries are over. BMW has just introduced a new Track Package for the M2 to solve that exact problem.

First teased on social media last year, where the front and rear sections were hidden under full camouflage, the new BMW M2 Track Package has now been fully revealed — showing upgrades to tackle corners while generating more G-force on both ends of the car.

Up front, the bumper now comes with a manually adjustable splitter that can be deployed for track use. On either side, a set of proper canards adds extra downforce, letting the M2 carry even more speed through corners.

But of course, the big elephant in the room is the massive swan-neck rear wing at the back — last seen on the BMW M4 GT4 and M4 GT3 race cars. The wing features what BMW calls “Race Mode,” which moves the wing 50 mm rearward to significantly increase downforce. Its attack angle is also fully adjustable, with two settings to maximise rear-axle grip depending on the track. And for a more integrated finishing touch, the third brake light is integrated directly into the wing itself.

Apart from the exterior upgrades designed to improve downforce, BMW is also including suspension enhancements with the Track Package. This includes a new threaded coilovers with four-way adjustable rebound and compression dampers, adjustable support bearings, and a special motorsports-inspired damper system — the latter being the first of its kind in any BMW. These upgrades allow the car to be lowered by up to 20 mm at both the front and rear axles, offering excellent flexibility for track or street use.

BMW says every component is specially developed for the model, and not mere plug-and-play parts from the BMW M spare parts bin. The aerodynamic devices have all been optimised in the marque’s wind tunnel and rigorously tuned by BMW M test driver Jörg Weidinger.

If you are interested in getting your BMW M2 with track-optimised aerodynamics and handling, the Track Package be available from July 2026 and will set you back EUR23,500 (approx. RM108k, excluding installation) on top of the base BMW M2.

Alongside the aggressive aero kit, BMW is also offering the M2 with the M Performance exhaust system from the BMW M2 CS as an optional extra for even more visual flair, and of course, added auditory theatrics. Made from carbon and titanium, the system saves around eight kg compared to the standard exhaust. The upgrade is priced from EUR8,343.50 (approx. RM38k), excluding installation.

Even with its upgrades, BMW has yet to reveal how much more downforce the track package actually produces. However, BMW says the BMW M2 with its optional M Performance exhaust system produces 530 hp from its S58 twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine — slightly more than the standard model, which produces 480 hp and 600 Nm of torque.

The fastest-ever unofficial lap around Malaysia’s Sepang Circuit by an M2 stands at 2:20.759, set in March 2022 by a modified F87 BMW M2 Competition. Could this factory G87 M2 with the optional Track Package beat that time? There’s only one way to find out — who’s brave (or rich) enough to tick that Track Package box and go hunting for lap times?
