Chery Malaysia to launch 4 new models in 2026; 12,930 cars sold last year

Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery Malaysia) announced that it will be launching four new models in 2026 at a media event last Friday, where it also provided several updates for the year ahead.

The company did not disclose the names of these upcoming models explicitly. Instead, it offered a series of cryptic themes for the year, starting with a promise to “redefine flagship luxury” in the second quarter. While Chery is playing its cards close to its chest, the next model to be launched in Malaysia could be the Chery Tiggo 9, the brand’s flagship SUV model that has previously been hinted for our markets.

In its home market in China, the Tiggo 9 is offered with petrol or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. On the petrol front, it features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 254 hp and 390 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

For the PHEV powertrain, the Chery Tiggo 9 gets a 1.5-litre engine that is paired with two electric motors for a combined output of 381 hp and 610 Nm. This enables a 0–100 km/h sprint in 8.9 seconds.

The remaining three models are less clear, with Chery only hinting at an SUV focused on “performance and versatility”, alongside a “youthful evolution” model, both set to debut in the third quarter. A second facelift for the Chery O5 is most likely, but we could also be seeing the arrival of the “cyber-mecha” styled Omoda C7, which was previously previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 – though it’s unclear if this will be sold under the Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia umbrella, too.

The year is then expected to close with a refreshed Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) model. Again, it’s all speculations for now, but this could simply be the PHEV variant of the Tiggo 9, or we might even see the introduction of the all-new second-generation Tiggo 8 to bring the line-up in line with its updated global siblings. Nonetheless, we will have to wait for Chery Malaysia to reveal more info when the time comes.

Chery Malaysia says it sold 12,930 cars last year. Of this total, 66% came from the Tiggo series and 34% from the Omoda series, the former being the signature models for the Chery brand. Notably, 21% of those total sales were electrified models powered by CSH technology. Looking ahead, the company is targeting a sales mix of 70% for internal combustion engine (ICE) models and 30% for CSH models in 2026.

To support this growth, the company will be unveiling its brand-new Gen 4 showroom concept, replacing existing Gen 3 facilities nationwide. Furthermore, construction of the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, Selangor, has begun and is expected to be completed within this year, boasting an annual production capacity of 100,000 units.
