Tesla Model Y in China now gets larger 16-inch screen, inherited from the Model Y L

The Tesla Model Y in China has just been treated to a handful of upgrades, adopting some of the new equipment that were introduced in the larger, six-seater Model Y L which debuted last August.

The most significant update comes in the form of the centre touchscreen. As reported by GlobalChinaEV, the Model Y in China now comes equipped with a larger 16-inch display from the Model Y L with a sharper 2560×1600 pixel resolution, replacing the previous 15.4-inch, 1920×1200 unit. This new unit is also accompanied by a new eight-inch screen behind the centre console for the second row passengers.

Additionally, the Tesla Model Y in China is now also optionally available with black headlining and interior pillar trims — offering a more practical alternative that is less prone to showing dirt and wear, although you can still pair it to the white interior upholstery as seen in these photos.

In China, the Tesla Model Y is offered in three variants. The range starts with the standard rear-wheel drive (RWD), offering 593 km of CLTC range and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds. This is followed by the long-range RWD with an extended 821 km CLTC range and a quicker 5.6-second sprint. Lastly, there is the long-range all-wheel drive (AWD), delivering 750 km of CLTC range and a 4.3-second century sprint.

Pricing for the Tesla Model Y in China starts from RMB263,500 (approx. RM153k) for the standard RWD, RMB288,500 (approx. RM167k) for the long-range RWD, and RMB313,500 (approx. RM181k) for the long-range AWD.

Upgrade to the range-topping six-seater Model Y L and its price is increased to RMB339,000 (approx RM196k). Range is maintained relatively similar to the range-topping five-seater Model Y at 751 km (CLTC) and boasts a century sprint time of 4.5 seconds

Tesla has also recently introduced new stripped-down Standard variants for both the Model Y and Model 3 in the US last year, featuring less equipment and a simplified look in favour of a lower starting price. Both Standard variants come in at USD5,000 (approx. RM20k) cheaper than the next most affordable model in their respective lineup.

Closer to home, the Tesla Model Y in Malaysia is currently offered in just two variants — the RWD priced from RM195,450 and the Long Range AWD from RM242,450. Tesla Malaysia has announced yesterday that pricing for both of the Model 3 and Model Y will remain unchanged for 2026, despite the tax exemptions for fully imported (CBU) electric vehicles ending on December 31, 2025.

Given that the Model Y in Malaysia is built in Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai facility, could we see the same upgrades being brought over to Malaysia too?
