Thailand to be the first RHD market for the Geely EX2, the Proton eMAS 5’s twin


While excitement surrounding the Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) is still at a high following its launch last week, our northern neighbours Thailand will not be feeling left out, as its twin, the Geely EX2, is now confirmed to be launched there by the end of 2025.

The announcement by the Thai distributors of Geely cements the kingdom’s spot as the first right-hand drive market for the model – that is, if you don’t consider the ones with the Proton badge.

Geely are counting on the EX2 to further boost their customer base in Thailand and if priced right, that should be a given, considering that over 400,000 units have already been sold in China, where it is badged as the Geely Xingyuan. Thai pricing will be announced during the upcoming Thai Motor Expo that will run from 29 November to 10 December 2025.

Aside from its name and badges, the Geely EX2 is identical to the eMAS 5, meaning that the Thai variant will be similarly equipped in a single motor rear-drive guise with two different power and battery outputs.

A base EX2 will deliver 79 hp and 130 Nm of torque with a WLTP-rated range of 225 km from the 30.12 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery. Need more punch? The 116 hp variant should do the trick, coupled with 150 Nm of torque. Its WLTP range is 325 km courtesy of the 40.16 kWh LFP pack.

Nothing much separates the Proton eMas 5 from the Geely EX2, save for the emblems.

DC fast charging allows both variants to juice up from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes. The base variant supports up to 53 kW while the more powerful one will take on up to 71 kW.

As is the case in Malaysia, the EX2 should be priced much lower than its EX5 sibling in Thailand, the latter sold here as the eMAS 7. In Malaysia, the eMAS 7 is priced at RM105,800 and RM119,800 respectively while the eMAS 5 goes for RM56,800 and RM69,800.
