Proton has partnered with Reef Check Malaysia (RCM), a non-profit organisation focused on coral reef conservation, to help clean and restore the coastal lines of Morib Beach in Banting, Selangor, while raising environmental awareness within the company.
This initiative is in line with Proton’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CRS) efforts, and marks the second year in a row where the national carmaker is targeting its efforts at Morib Beach, known for its valuable marine and mangrove ecosystems.
A total of 157 volunteers, comprising staff from Proton, vendors, dealers, and bankers, were there for the clean-up. In total, the team cleared 468.27 kilograms of waste, including general waste, large items, tin and metal, plastic, glass, plastic straws, as well as cigarette butts.
Proton says the event was not just about cleaning the area, but also about raising awareness on the importance of keeping coastlines clean and educating participants on the role of mangroves and coastal ecosystems in environmental conservation. Volunteers were also taught on ways to personally reduce waste in their daily lives.
