Mercedes-AMG has dropped a teaser for its latest track-focused beast — the Concept AMG GT Track Sport. As the name suggests, it’s set to be an ultra-aggressive, G-force-inducing track weapon built to be – in the company’s words – “uncompromising”.
With the AMG GT positioned squarely as the competitor for Stuttgart’s finest, Mercedes-AMG says that the Concept AMG GT Track Sport is “designed for absolute driving dynamic peak performance to set new standards and record times”, hinting that it will take the fight straight to the top — namely, against the Porsche 911 GT2 RS around the Nürburgring.
The last time these two brands competed, it was between the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and the aforementioned Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The AMG GT Black Series recorded a time of 6:43.616 around the Nürburgring— setting it as Mercedes’ fastest road-legal production car at the time.
Several months later, the 911 GT2 RS fitted with a Manthey Racing Kit beat the AMG GT Black Series by three-tenths of a second with a time of 6:43.300 despite having less power at 700 hp and 750 Nm, compared to the 720 hp and 800 Nm of the AMG GT Black Series. Now, with the new generation of AMG GT cars, Mercedes-AMG appears to be bringing the fight back to the 992.2-generation 911 GT cars.

Looking at the teaser images provided by Mercedes, the Concept AMG GT Track Sport features a large array of visible upgrades, which include a larger grille opening, a larger front splitter, aggressive canards on the front bumper, vents on the bonnet, and – obviously – the large swan-neck rear wing.
Underneath the camouflage, expect extensive use of lightweight carbon body panels. The centrelock wheels and Michelin street tyres means it’ll still be street-legal too, while also in line with Nürburgring lap record rules that dictate that any official attempt must be set on “series-production state”, customer-purchasable setups.

Mercedes-AMG says that this concept is “a possible expansion of the GT series with a V8 engine.” The current top-of-the-line GT63 is also powered by a 4.0-litre V8, but only makes 585 hp and 800 Nm, so we expect a significant jump in outputs here. There’s also an SL63 S E Performance variant that makes 816 hp and 1,420 Nm from the same engine, but with some assistance from the hybrid system.
Both cars feature the company’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system, but judging by Mercedes-AMG’s goal of making it lightweight for the track, the Concept AMG GT may possibly be fully rear-wheel-drive without any electrification and all-wheel drive system for “uncompromising” performance.
As Mercedes-AMG readies its most extreme GT machine yet, it’s exciting to see carmakers and their engineers reigniting the Nürburgring rivalry. We’ve already seen records traded between Koenigsegg and Rimac in the battle to defy physics — and now, with all the buzz surrounding this Concept AMG GT, it’s only a matter of time before Porsche fires back.
