Chery Tiggo Cross launching in Malaysia this Wednesday from under RM100k – CKD, hybrid or petrol

Chery Malaysia has been building anticipation on Facebook with a countdown to the official launch of the Chery Tiggo Cross, set for this Wednesday. First previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, the company has announced that the Chery Tiggo Cross will be locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia, and will be offered with both hybrid and conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains. Prices for the compact crossover is expected to start below RM100,000.

The Chery Tiggo Cross measures 4,318 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,610 mm – putting it in competition with models like the Proton X50, Perodua Ativa, and Honda WR-V.

Chery will offer the car in two variants: the Tiggo Cross and the Tiggo Cross Hybrid, the latter featuring Chery’s Super Hybrid system. Powering the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 147 hp and 210 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.

The hybrid variant, on the other hand, utilises the same 1.5-litre engine but without a turbocharger, producing 96 hp and 120 Nm. The engine is to a Direct Hybrid Transmission featuring an integrated motor. Its hybrid system—powered by a 1.8 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery—delivers an output of 204 hp and 310 Nm. While the total system output hasn’t been officially disclosed, Chery claims a 0-100 km/h time of just 8.9 seconds.

Interestingly, the soon-to-arrive Tiggo Cross is actually the second facelift of the Tiggo 4 Pro, first previewed in Malaysia several years ago. It now features a significantly updated design with a new grille, slimmer headlights, and a full-width LED light bar at the back. To differentiate between variants, the turbo comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Hybrid gets 17-inch alloys and replaces the “CROSS” badging on the tailgate with “Hybrid.”

Moving inside, both variants are equipped with dual 10.25-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display. The system will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a 540-degree camera and a six-speaker sound system.

Other standard interior features include a 15W wireless charger, faux leather upholstery, powered driver’s seat, ambient lighting, dual-zone air-conditioning with a touch-screen control panel, auto wipers, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

As for safety, the turbo variant gets six airbags, while the hybrid is fitted with seven. Both variants will be receiving the full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that includes lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, auto high beam, lane departure prevention, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
