Due to increasingly strict emissions regulations in Europe and the United Kingdom, Honda will end sales of the Civic Type R in the region by the end of 2026. In light of its departure, the company is now introducing a special ‘Ultimate Edition’ as a swansong to the model with only 40 units available across the region, alongside the remaining standard models.
This special Type R pays tribute to the model’s 28-year legacy as a hot hatch icon. It comes finished in the signature Championship White, complemented by bespoke red decals across the bonnet and along the sides, highlighting its significance as a farewell edition. A black-painted roof, carbon-fibre rear wing, and unique doorstep garnish further set it apart.
Overall, Honda didn’t change much of the interior. However, the carbon theme from the outside continues with the centre console panel. Opening the doors of the Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition reveal a Type R logo projected on the floor.
Upon delivery, owners will receive a matching gift box containing a numbered emblem – from one to four – and a carbon ring. The car will also feature custom-made floor mats and a car cover.
Honda Motor Europe Head of European Strategy and Product, Hannah Swift, said, “As we say farewell to a true icon of the Honda automobile line-up in Europe, we thought it was fitting to give the Civic Type R the ultimate send-off with this special edition model offering our customers a unique opportunity to celebrate its legacy.”

“The industry is changing, and our model range is having to evolve with it in accordance with European legislation. However, Type R has always been Honda’s ultimate expression of our passion for driving excitement, and we look forward to celebrating its heritage in the weeks and months ahead,” she added.
The first Type R came about with the sixth generation Honda Civic hatchback model in 1997. Since then, over five generations of Civic Type Rs have been made, building a loyal fan base around the model and the brand. It broke records for the fastest production front-wheel-drive car in various tracks – most notably the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
Thankfully, the Civic Type R will continue to sell in Malaysia so we can still enjoy the best that Honda has to offer. The FL5 Honda Civic Type R makes 319 hp and 420 Nm from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power is sent to the front wheels only via a six-speed manual transmission and goes from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed of 272 km/h.
Currently, Honda Malaysia offers the Civic Type R from RM399,999 on-the-road, without insurance. As more countries adopt increasingly stringent emissions regulations, it’s unclear how many more generations of the Type R we’ll see. What is certain, however, is that the Civic Type R has already secured its place as a modern performance icon—one that enthusiasts will remember long after the final edition rolls off the line.
