We just drove the Nissan Kicks e-Power to Butterworth, Penang and back without refuelling. With just a 41L fuel tank, it is larger than a Perodua Myvi’s fuel tank and about the same as the Honda HR-V e:HEV hybrid. With that Nissan claims a fuel consumption of just 21.7 km/L (4.6L/100 km), allowing the Nissan Kicks to hit 900 km per full tank.
When the fuel tank was finally empty upon our arrival in KL, we clocked 19.7 km/L (5.1 L/100 km) covering a total distance 716 km. While on the North-South Expressway up to Penang and back, we kept our speeds constant and within the speed limit.

While the 19.7 km/L fuel consumption figure was really close to the manufacturer’s claim, it did fall short on the 900 km mark Nissan claimed the Kicks can achieve. However, as we have experienced, the Kicks (much like an EV) is far more effective and fuel efficient when driven primarily in urban areas.

Before the trip to Penang, we took the Nissan Kicks e-Power on a big loop around Kuala Lumpur’s major highways and the result was quite surprising. At the end of the 80+ km drive from Bukit Jalil to Gombak, to Sri Damansara, to Puchong and back to Bukit Jalil, there was a very slight drop in fuel level, but we actually had more range at the end than when we started.

As it was being driven in various road and weather conditions, rain and dry, slow and fast-moving traffic, the car was constantly regenerating electricity when the vehicle slowed down, or while braking. It was a very different driving style, while on the way to Penang as we kept the throttle steadily to maintain 110 km/h as much as possible, whenever possible.
The Nissan Kicks is driven solely by an electric motor producing 129 hp and 280 Nm. The electric motor is powered by a 2 kWh battery, charged using the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. Its 9.5 seconds acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h may not sound quick at all, but you’ll be surprised watching it in the video.

There are three variants available for the Nissan Kicks e-Power. Prices start from RM113,800 for the VL (Mid Grade), RM121,800 for the VLT (High Grade) and RM125,800 for the VLT (High Grade two-tone).
