GAC M8 now open for booking from est. RM333k – Malaysia’s first PHEV luxury MPV

WTC Automotif (WTCA) has debuted the GAC M8, its luxury MPV model, here at Malaysia Autoshow 2025. Set to become the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) luxury MPV in Malaysia when it makes its official launch sometime this year, the Alphard/Vellfire rival has been given an estimate pricing of RM333,000, and is now open for booking.

The GAC M8 on display appears to be a Singaporean unit, as indicated by an Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) unit on the dashboard. In the Republic, the MPV is known as the GAC E9 and is launched in two variants, priced from SGD284,988 (approx. RM946k), inclusive of Singapore’s Certificate of Entitlement (COE).

While the GAC M8 adopts a typical boxy MPV silhouette, a distinctive design element is its daytime running lights (DRLs), which flow from the headlights to the front grille with a unique pattern mimicking the light reflection within a crystal.

The GAC M8 on display features second-row captain chairs and a sunroof. The front cabin showcases a touchscreen infotainment system flanked by dedicated climate and multimedia controls, along with a driver’s digital gauge cluster, and a foldable rear table.

Other highlighted equipment includes a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and GAC’s patented 360-degree full-surround airbag technology, notably featuring the world’s first rear windscreen airbag.

WTCA has yet to reveal the full specifications of the GAC M8, stating that details will be available closer to its Malaysian launch. However, they have noted that the MPV offers a combined driving range of up to 1,038 km on a full charge and tank of petrol.

Based on the Singapore specifications of the same MPV, the GAC M8 is powered by a PHEV powertrain featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 190 hp, paired with an electric motor delivering 190 hp (140 kW) and 330 Nm of torque.

While GAC Motor didn’t specify the battery pack details for the GAC E9 in Singapore, they confirmed AC and DC charging capabilities. The Malaysia-bound GAC M8 PHEV will likely feature a similar powertrain setup to the Singaporean model.

At the debut of the GAC M8 PHEV, WTC Automotive CEO Mr. Tan Keng Meng revealed that the MPV comes standard with a five-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, while the battery pack, drive motor, and electric control units are covered by a separate eight-year or 150,000 km warranty.

Customers who place their bookings for the GAC M8 PHEV during the pre-sales period will enjoy two years of complimentary scheduled maintenance and receive a portable charging cable, offering a combined value of RM3,800.
