In case you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the Deepal S05 electric vehicle (EV) SUV has now been confirmed to be coming to Malaysia pretty soon this year. But before it could make our Malaysian roads its home, it’ll have to attend the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show 2025 (BIMS 2025), where it is currently part of a buffet of Chinese EVs being showcased there.
Looking at the dimensions from bumper-to-bumper, the Deepal S05 stands at 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. For comparison, it’s bigger than the BYD Atto 3, and roughly around the same size as the Proton eMAS 7 and Geely Galaxy EX5 twins. The wheelbase is also longer than the Malaysian EV at 2,880 mm, too.
Look a little closer – well, maybe not that close at all – you’ll notice that overall, it bears a passing resemblance to the Porsche Macan EV, from the headlights, the profile, the rake, to even the rear taillights.
The Deepal S05 in Thailand is offered as both an EV and range-extender EV (REEV), split across three different trim levels. Pricing starts at THB799,000 (approx. RM104k) for the EV, and THB949,000 (approx. RM123k) for the REEV, the latter is only available in the higher-end Plus and Max trim levels.
On the electric end, the Deepal S05 EV is powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle, producing 238 hp and 320 Nm of torque. That’s enough for a century sprint time of 7.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.

Powering the electric drivetrain is a CATL-branded 56 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, rated for an NEDC-rated EV range of 470 km. AC charging is supported at a rate of 7 kWh, whilst DC fast charging has a max charging output of 152 kW – allowing for 30–80% charging time in just 15 minutes.
For the REEV variants, it’s still a single rear motor driving the car, but it’s a little less powerful at 218 hp and 320 Nm of torque. A 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 98 hp acts as a generator to power the motor, and charge the smaller 27 kWh LFP battery pack.
In terms of performance, the REEV Deepal S05 is a touch slower from 0-100 km/h at 7.9 seconds, and it also maxes out a little slower at 175 km/h. Of course, you do get a significantly longer range too, with the 45L fuel tank working in conjunction with electricity to give the model up to 1,000 km of range. On electricity alone, the Deepal S05 REEV can also travel up to 170 km (NEDC) in complete silence.
As far as standard features go, the Deepal S05 features frameless doors, automatic windshield wipers and defogger, multifunction steering wheel, front power adjustable seats, USB charging ports, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Closer to home, Bermaz Motor – through Bermaz Changan – has recently previewed the Deepal S07 – which was already available in Thailand last year. You can read about our coverage here. That said, we still don’t know when the Deepal S07 will be released in Malaysia, so the S05 could be an even longer wait.
