Presales of the Leapmotor B10 in China had just opened during its launch today. And already, within one hour of opening its order books, Leapmotor has received over 15,000 orders for the next electric vehicle (EV) compact crossover on the block.
Coming in at a total of five trim levels, the Leapmotor B10 starts at a price tag from RMB109,800 (approx. RM67k) to RMB139,800 (approx. RM85k). Of the five variants, the top two will have access to LiDAR. The Chinese marque says that the Leapmotor B10 is the first ever EV in the world to feature LiDAR below the RMB130,000 (approx. RM79k).
Having made its debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, Leapmotor says that the B10 is its first “global” C-segment compact crossover, and it’ll come in roughly similar in size to the likes of the Proton eMAS 7 and BYD Atto 3. The Leapmotor B10 is also the first car in the brand’s line up to be built on the new Leap 3.5 architecture.
The Leapmotor B10 is offered in two powertrain options over in China – an entry-level and long-range variant. Both variants have a single rear-mounted electric motor, with the base entry-level variant rated at 177 hp (132 kW) with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 9.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the long-range variant sports a higher output at 214 hp (160 kW) and 240 Nm of torque. The more powerful variant of the two also has a faster century sprint time of 6.8 seconds.
Both variants are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The entry-level variant gets a 56.2 kWh battery pack that is rated for 510 km (CLTC), whilst the long-range variant gets a bigger 67.1 kWh battery pack with a CLTC-rated 600 km of EV range.
On the outside, the Leapmotor B10 features daytime running lights that stretch across the front fascia, and a single taillight unit also stretching across the back like a Porsche Cayenne. It also features retractable door handles for a sleeker look, 18-inch wheels, and the optional LiDAR sensor on the roof.
Moving to the inside, the Leapmotor B10’s front dashboard is minimalistic with two digital displays: A 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the middle, and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster in front of the driver. The centre console is also pretty bare with no gear knob in sight; forward and reverse gears are changed via the stalk behind the steering wheel.

As far as advanced driving-assistance systems (ADAS) is concerned, the variants without LiDAR utilise a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 cockpit chip. Meanwhile, variants that are equipped with LiDAR will not only have enhanced ADAS functionalities, but also a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 cockpit chip and Qualcomm 8650 smart driving chip.
In an interview with the press during the presale launch event, CNEVPost reported Leapmotor management saying that the brand will be targeting a monthly sales goal of at least 40,000 units for the B-series models.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, we currently only have one Leapmotor offering for sale here, which is the Leapmotor C10. The D-segment SUV starts at a price tag of RM159,000 on-the-road (OTR) without insurance.
Equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor, the Leapmotor C10 sends 218 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque to the rear wheels, achieving a century sprint time of 7.5 seconds and top speed of 170 km/h. Additionally, it packs a 69.9 kWh battery pack that gives the EV SUV a WLTP-rated EV range of 424 km. Uniquely, Leapmotor says that its chassis has been fine-tuned by Maserati, the Italian luxury carmaker also under the Stellantis umbrella.
