Video: Leapmotor C10 now in Malaysia – RM149k until Nov 2024!

A new player has entered the Malaysian EV market and it’s called Leapmotor. The brand is backed by one of the largest automotive groups, Stellantis. Leapmotor is making its official debut in Malaysia with Leapmotor C10, it’s first global product.

Positioned as a mid-sized D-segment SUV, the Leapmotor C10 is available in a single variant with a starting price of RM159,000 on-the road, without insurance. But for a limited time until 30 November 2024, Stellantis Malaysia is offering the fully-electric SUV at a special introductory price of RM149,000.

Boasting an exterior design that has won both the International CMF Design Award and the French Design Award, the C10’s styling is characterised by the distinctive Angel Wings headlights and a sporty lower grille. The sleek lines extend along the sides, culminating in a striking full-width taillight bar at the rear.

Hop inside the C10 and you’ll be greeted by a minimalist interior devoid of any buttons or switches. All controls to the vehicle functions and climate controls are done via the central 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. The only physical controls, aside from the window toggles, are two switches on the steering wheel, which we think look strongly inspired by those in a Model 3.

The front seats can fully recline, and together with the rear seats folded down, this makes enough space equivalent to a double-sized bed. With the comfortable Oeko-Tex silicone-based upholstery which is not only eco-friendly but also baby-safe, the C10 could arguably turn any campsite into a luxurious retreat. And get this, it even has special modes for camping and napping!

The Leapmotor C10 is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor generating 218 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. Using its connection with Stellantis, Leapmotor collaborated with Maserati to fine-tune the C10’s suspension. Even the 20-inch wheels are dubbed “Trident” wheels, a subtle nod to the Italian automaker. While we don’t expect it to handle exactly like a Maserati, this collaboration aims to enhance the C10’s ride comfort and stability.

With a competitive price that undercuts many rivals in its segment, the Leapmotor C10 presents an enticing offer for those seeking a premium electric driving experience. But with established players dominating the market, the question remains: will the C10’s compelling combination of features, performance, and value be enough to sway buyers?
