The Suzuki Jimny 5-Door, launched in Japan as the Suzuki Jimny Nomade, has been met with overwhelming interest – quite literally. In just four days, the Jimny 5-door has received over 50,000 orders, forcing Suzuki Japan to temporarily halt orders.
We can only assume the Jimny 5-door’s popularity in Japan is due to it having the cute and adorable design of the Suzuki Jimny 3-door, but with added practicality from two extra doors – and not to mention its actual offroad chops.
This surge in demand has resulted in a wait list of 3.5 years for those wanting a Suzuki Jimny 5-Door in Japan. The reason for this extended wait lies in the vehicle’s production at Suzuki’s Gurugram plant in India, which is being exported (CBU) to markets beyond Japan, including Malaysia.
Only 1,200 units of the Suzuki Jimny 5-door is allocated for the Japanese market per month, which translates to 14,400 units annually. This limited supply is clearly not enough to meet the current demand in the Japanese market.

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door in Japan is available in two variants, with prices starting from JPY2.65 million (approx. RM76k).
Like the Suzuki Jimny 5-door sold in Malaysia, which is also fully imported (CBU) from India, the Japanese version is powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 102 hp and 130 Nm of torque.
Transmission options include a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual, both paired to a part-time 4WD system with a low range transfer case.
In Malaysia, the fully imported (CBU) Suzuki Jimny 5-door is available in a single variant mated exclusively with a four-speed automatic, priced at RM199,950 on-the-road without insurance.
