But wait, isn’t Omoda a Chery nameplate? Why is it being launched by Jaecoo? That’s a question many are asking. The most likely explanation is that Chery is positioning the Omoda C9 as a more premium offering in Malaysia, leveraging the Jaecoo brand to emphasise this.
Interestingly, the Omoda C9, now without the Chery branding, is actually the same model as the Exeed RX in China. And Exeed is Chery’s luxury sub-brand in its home country. So, the Omoda C9’s premium positioning in Malaysia aligns with its status in China as a luxury SUV.
To reinforce its premium status, the Omoda C9 comes with a range of features typically found in more expensive cars. These include leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and even an air fragrance system.

Under the hood, the Omoda C9 boasts a powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, generating 257 hp and 400 Nm. This makes it one of the most powerful SUVs in its price range. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
The Omoda C9 is priced from RM168,800 for the 2WD variant and RM188,800 for the AWD variant. Prices are inclusive of a seven-year warranty or up to 150,000 km warranty.
