Xiaomi’s been very brash about getting its SU7 Ultra prototype around the fabled Nurburgring for a record run and the time has finally come, with a blistering 6:46.874 lap. That makes it the fastest 4-door around the ‘Ring but unfortunately it won’t really count for much.
Unfortunately for Xiaomi EV, the car-building arm of Xiaomi, the SU7 Ultra prototype’s record is categorised as a non-series or non-road-legal lap record (under the Prototypes / pre-production vehicles category). The production four-door record still belongs to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package and its 7:07.55 time.
As for the pure electric vehicles, the record is held by the Volkswagen ID.R with a time of 6:05.336, followed by the Lotus Evija X Hypercar at 6:24.047.
The unveiling of the SU7 Ultra prototype’s time comes right on the heels of the production version’s official unveiling that is set for 29 October 2024. While we wait on the production SU7 Ultra, the current SU7 range comprises three variants; the Standard, Pro and Max.

The SU7 Ultra prototype features a triple-motor setup with its most powerful HyperEngine V8s. Each motor has a maximum speed of 27,200rpm with 578 HP and 635 Nm of peak torque. Combined, that’s good for a stout 1,548 HP and a century sprint time of just 1.97 seconds while it dispatches the 0 to 200 km/h run in 5.96 seconds and tops out at 350 km/h.
Xiaomi’s initial booking of the Nurburgring for two days in early October didn’t pan out as rain deterred any record runs. Finally, they were given an hour’s window on 28 October 2024 that yielded the record timing. Nurburgring officials confirmed the timing later in the day.
From the video below, you can see British driver David Pittard, winner of the 2023 24 Hours of the Nurburgring, wrestling the SU7 Ultra prototype around the ‘Ring.

Xiaomi has teased that the production version of the SU7 Ultra will feature prominent racing components such as Akebono carbon ceramic brakes and Bilstein EVO T1 suspension.
The SU7 Ultra and other Xiaomi products such as the Mi 15 smartphone, will be unveiled later today. If you’re thinking of getting the production SU7 Ultra, it should be officially launched in early 2025.
