Video: 2024 BYD M6 now in Malaysia – 7-seater EV MPV from RM110k!

Everything is becoming electrified, from your SUVs to even little hatchbacks. But now, it’s finally the turn of the family MPVs, with the launch of the BYD M6 here in Malaysia. Fully imported from China and available in two variants, the BYD M6 is priced from RM109,800 in Malaysia on-the-road and without insurance.

The M6 is essentially a heavily facelifted version of the BYD e6, which was previously earmarked for Malaysia (but never made it here). It bears a newly designed front fascia, which BYD calls the “Classic Dragon Face”, with a generous littering of chrome accents alongside the newly reworked lighting elements significantly uplifting the MPV’s appearance.

Inside, the BYD M6 has also seen a significant facelift, most notably with the swap to an open pore wood-like dashboard trim, and the addition of the large rotating 12.8-inch infotainment display. The centre console has also been redesigned, characterised by the new gearshift lever, but BYD has opted to retain the analogue instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, which does look somewhat out of place in an EV.

The BYD M6 is offered solely as a seven-seater here in Malaysia.

Two powertrain options are on offer: the Standard variant with a 163 hp (120 kW) and 310 Nm front motor, paired to a 55.4 kWh battery, and the Extended variant with an upgraded motor producing 204 hp (150 kW) and 310 Nm, powered by a larger 71.8 kWh battery.

Driving range is rated at 420 km (NEDC) on the Standard, and 530 km (NEDC) on the Extended Range. The latter also supports up to 115 kW of DC Fast charging (as opposed to 89 kW on the Standard), though it’ll still require 40 minutes of charging to go from 10-80%.

The BYD M6 is priced at RM109,800 for the Standard variant and RM123,800 for the Extended variant, both on-the-road and without insurance. The price includes a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty guaranteeing state of health above 70%, as well as an eight-year/150,000 km warranty for the electric drive unit.
