Attention MyJPJ app users: the app will require users to log in with MyDigital ID from 10th October 2024 onwards following a notice on the app after the latest update.
The MyJPJ app, first introduced earlier this year, is part of the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) digitalisation initiative and provides access to the digital version of the driving licence, road tax and vehicle ownership certificate. In-app services such as driving licence and road tax renewals are also available, removing the need to visit a physical JPJ branch.
MyDigital ID was first announced back in November last year by Malaysia Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim. It aims to serve as the national digital identification system for Malaysians, which functions like a digital identity card (IC). Do note that MyDigital ID is not a replacement to the existing MyKad for identification purposes.
The move towards implementing MyDigital ID for logins is part of a wider initiative by the Malaysian government to streamline processes across various agencies by utilising a single verification process instead of using different passwords for different services.
Developed by MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). It has been designed with user data security as a top priority. Addressing concerns of data safety, MyDigital ID assures that it does not store users’ biometric and personal data or track users’ online activities. Instead, the system references existing data on MyKad and the National Registration Department.
To register for MyDigital ID, simply download the app (separate from MyJPJ) from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei AppGallery and follow the instructions on the app.
