Honda HR-V facelift revealed for Australia, first debut outside of Japan

The facelifted Honda HR-V is set for its global reach, with Australia becoming the first market outside of Japan to receive the updated model. This follows the unveiling of the revised B-segment SUV in Japan earlier this year.

On the outside, the Honda HR-V facelift in Australia has a redesigned front grille, bumper, and new LED taillights that give the SUV a more modern look. This is thanks to the red bar that runs across the back of it. The facelifted Honda HR-V has also gotten a pair of new projector LED headlights with an adaptive high beam (AHB) function. The facelifted Honda HR-V introduces two new exterior colours, Slate Grey and Botanical Green (exclusive to the hybrid variant only), replacing the discontinued Meteoroid Grey.

The facelifted Honda HR-V will be available in three variants. The new mid-spec e:HEV X model joins the existing flagship e:HEV L and the Vi X. The two top variants feature a hybrid powertrain combining a 129 hp and 253 Nm electric motor with a 1.5 litre DOHC i-VTEC that produces 104 hp and 127 Nm petrol engine that acts as a generator. The base model, the Vi X petrol variant, retains its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 104 hp and 127 Nm paired to a CVT transmission.

While no mechanical changes are confirmed for the Australian-spec, the Japan-spec Honda Vezel has received software updates for improved throttle response and reduced engine interruptions. These updates are expected to be implemented in the Australian-spec HR-V as well.

While official images of the Australian-spec facelifted Honda HR-V interior have not been released, based on the Honda Vezel in Japan, it is expected to feature a redesigned centre console with a more traditional layout and additional storage space. The facelifted Honda HR-V will also introduce the Honda Connect app and services to the Australian market for the first time, offering a complimentary subscription for the initial five years.

Safety-wise, the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features has been enhanced with the addition of Traffic Jam Assist, enabling Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities at low speeds. Other improvements include refinements to the facelifted Honda HR-V’s autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, and lane keeping assist functions.
