Land Rover revives legendary Defender V8 – reworked suspension, tech upgrade

Land Rover has unveiled a modernized version of the classic Defender, dubbed the Defender V8, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. This restomod project reimagines the iconic off-roader with contemporary updates while preserving its heritage.

The Defender V8 is a meticulously restored and modernized version of the iconic off-roader. Featuring a revised chassis, interior, and exterior, this limited-edition model blends classic charm with modern enhancements.

Prices for the Defender V8 by Works Bespoke start at GBP190,000 (approx. RM1.08mil.), which buys a four-seater 90 model. The larger five-seater 110 is priced at GBP199,000 (approx. RM1.13mil.) and the seven-seater is GBP204,000 (approx. RM1.16mil.). Each model will be based on a Defender produced between 2012 and 2016 and sourced by Land Rover themself.

Power-wise, the Defender V8 is equipped with Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) well-known 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine, producing 405 hp and 515 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed automatic gearbox supplied by ZF.

The Defender V8 benefits from upgraded suspension components, including Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, and anti-roll bars. This enhanced suspension setup improves handling and cornering performance. Brembo brakes with four-piston callipers provide increased stopping power.

The redesigned Defender V8 interior features premium leather upholstery in five available colours. Two seat options are offered: a comfort-focused design and a sportier option from Recaro with enhanced lateral support. It also features a new 3.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the original radio. This modern addition provides enhanced functionality, including satellite navigation, DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radio, and Bluetooth connectivity, while maintaining the classic aesthetic of the vehicle.

Exterior-wise, the Defender V8 features upgraded exterior elements, including brighter LED headlights and a choice of 16-inch “Wolf” or 18-inch “Sawtooth” alloy wheels. Optional accessories such as side steps, a ladder, and LED spotlights are available for customization. Land Rover also offers a paint-to-sample program, allowing buyers to select a personalized color for their vehicle.
