Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic SUV now in Malaysia – same equipment but only 360 hp, RM626K

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has added a new variant to the EQS SUV line-up here in Malaysia. Dubbed the Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic SUV, the new variant in Malaysia offers the same kind of luxury appointments as the EQS580 SUV, just with a more laid back powertrain, and a lower price tag – RM625,888 on-the-road and without insurance.

Even with a price tag that’s RM74,000 lower than its sibling, the new Mercedes-Benz EQS4580 4Matic SUV actually comes with an improved NMC battery pack, with larger usable battery capacity at 118 kWh (up from 107.8 kWh) that gives the model even more range – up to 673 km, or 58 km more than the more expensive EQS580 SUV.

Charging will take approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes using the on-board b charger, or 31 minutes (10-80%) using DC fast chargers of up to 200 kW.

It’s still a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup, but what you’re trading up for the lower price is its less potent performance. On the EQS450, the 4Matic all-wheel-drive setup pushes out 360 hp (265 kW) and 800 Nm for a 0-100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds – 1.5 seconds slower than the EQS580.

Top speed, meanwhile, is rated at an unchanged 210 km/h. Also unchanged is the Airmatic air suspension with ADS+ adaptive damping, which allows the car’s ground clearance to be raised or lowered by up to 25 mm, as well as rear-wheel steering of up to 10-degrees.

In terms of looks and equipment, the new Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic SUV is pretty much completely identical to the EQS580. There’s the same sporty-looking AMG body kit, same Digital Light headlamps with the full-width lightbar, the 3D helix tail lights, aluminium side steps, as well as the same 22-inch AMG multi-spoke light alloy wheels.

The only differentiating factor on the outside is quite literally the variant badging on the tailgate. So if you’re really want to “up-badge” your car, you can…

It’s the same story on the inside, too, with a completely unchanged cabin design based on the Electric Art package. The massive Hyperscreen dashboard is contrasted against a brown open-pore magnolia wood trim for a unique high-tech yet luxurious look, while the black brown Nappa leather seats are offset by the Balao brown adornments on the centre console, dashboard topper, and door armrests.

Ditto the equipment – aside from the three screens of the Hyperscreen dashboard, the Meredes-Benz EQS450 4Matic SUV also gets a “77 inch” head-up display as standard, alongside MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System with two 11.6-inch touchscreens for the second-row passengers, and a the 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos support.

As for safety, the EQS450 SUV comes as standard with the Driving Assistance Package Plus that includes autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, and evasive manoeuvre support. The Parking Package also comes as standard with a 360-degree camera, alongside Active Parking Assist.
