Gallery: Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 4Matic – 6 screens, 7 seats, 615km range

If we were to look for the best feature combination for a comfortable and luxurious drive, it would include items like an air suspension system, an electric powertrain, and an SUV body style. And that’s exactly what you’re looking at here – all of that is available in the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 4Matic, and it will cost you RM699,888.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is… an SUV version of the saloon Mercedes-Benz EQS. Thus, it also carries over the curvy aerodynamic styling from the saloon model. The headlights and “grille” merge into one piece at the front, and the headlights are bridged with an LED light bar.

At this point, the door handles of the EQ-Series Mercedes-Benz electric cars have become quite distinctive with their electric pop-out functionality. The washer fluid cap on the left front fender has also become a thing for the EQ models. And they’re not just for show as they’re all there to improve the aerodynamics of the car.

For the Malaysian market, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 gets the AMG Line trim. This means that it gets the AMG Line Package bumpers, side steps, and 22-inch multi-spoke wheels. The turbine-like wheels are wrapped in a set of Cooper Zeon Cross Range tyres.

Propelling the EQS SUV 580 4Matic is a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that makes 544 hp (metric) and 858 Nm. Its powertrain enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds, onward to a limited top speed of 210 km/h.

Storing electricity in the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 4Matic is a 108.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. This large battery pack allows for a pure electric driving range of 615 km on the WLTP test cycle.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 is one of the earlier EVs in Malaysia to provide 22 kW AC charging capability. With it, you can charge the car from flat to full in 5 hours in the comfort of your own home. It also supports 11 kW AC charging which will take double the time.

Although not built with an 800 V architecture, the DC charging speed of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 4Matic is rather plausible with a maximum rate of 200 kW. With this, the car can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes.

Inside, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 is perhaps the most interesting car today. It has not two, three, or four screens, but a total of six screens in the cabin. There is the standard head unit and digital instrument cluster, but there is also a screen for the front passenger, and three screens for the rear passengers. It is also probably the last of its kind as EURO NCAP has its own opinions on the usage of screens in cars.

That large screen setup or the first row is referred to as the Hyperscreen setup from Mercedes-Benz. It runs on the latest MBUX system and it gets helpful features like augmented reality navigation, comprehensive personalization, and the usual smartphone connectivity (wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).

Screen haven aside, the cabin of the EQS SUV still stands out. The front seats come with an array of massage options and just about every seat gets a neck cushion. The first two rows in the EQS SUV will keep just about every passenger happy, although the same couldn’t really be said about the third row – full-sized adults may find it claustrophobic.

If you don’t plan on utilizing the third-row seats for most of your ownership, the boot of the EQS SUV offers ample space for an active family. There is at least 800 litres of space with the third-row seats stowed away. With the third row up, the space is a bit smaller but still enough for a couple of suitcases.

Safety-wise, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV in Malaysia is equipped with advanced driver assist features such as adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping and steering assist, as well as autonomous emergency braking with cross-traffic function.
