Smart #5 teased – world debut on August 28th, over 550km range

The largest Smart car ever, the Smart #5 is set to make its world premiere on August 28, 2024 in Australia. The company is now teasing camouflaged images of the car, although we have seen the leaked images from China earlier in June this year.

Smart has yet to unveil the technical specifications of the Smart #5, but the documents published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have detailed some information. The car will supposedly be equipped with 4 powertrain options:

  • RWD, single motor, 250 kW (340 hp)
  • RWD, single motor, 267 kW (363 hp)
  • AWD, dual motors. 432 kW (587 hp)
  • AWD, dual motors. 475 kW (646 hp)

The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants are powered by LFP batteries while the all-wheel drive (AWD) variants are powered by NMC batteries. So far, the Smart #5 is claimed to be able to be driven for over 550 km of range (WLTP) on a single charge.

The official images shared by Smart show the Smart #5 tackling off-road courses, with both mud and snow demonstrated in the image set. Shown in two types of camouflage, the proportions of the production car are already visible. All we can say is that it doesn’t look too different from the Smart Concept #5 which was previewed in April 2024.

Smart Automobile Global CMO, Ms. Mandy Zhang said, “We are thrilled to soon introduce the smart #5, a vehicle that not only promises a premium, adventurous experience but represents the latest embodiment of our vision for future mobility and brand claim – ‘open your mind’. As part of our bold move beyond urban confines, #5 is created with the mission of inspiring the community to embrace and relish every possibility of life. Encounter the unexpected, in a smart way.”
