BYD Dolphin update launched in Thailand – larger battery, from approx. RM74k


The BYD Dolphin has just received an update in Thailand, giving the all-electric hatchback a larger battery pack and a longer driving range for the Standard Range variant. Despite this, its starting price is now cheaper compared to the previously imported model at 569,900 bhat (RM73,754).

Offered in two variants, namely Standard Range and Extended Range, the BYD Dolphin continues to be built on the brand’s e-Platform 3.0. The Standard Range variant now gets a bigger battery of 50.25 kWh translating to a 435 km NEDC range. The previous iteration of the Standard Range variant was fitted with a 44.9 kWh battery pack which translated to NEDC range of 410 km. The Extended Range variant gets the same battery pack of 60.48 kWh from the pre-update, translating to a 490 km NEDC range.

Both of the variants come with a single electric motor and power is sent to the front wheels only. The Standard Range variant comes with a maximum power of 93 hp and 180 Nm which allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds. The Extended Range variant comes with a maximum power of 201 hp and 310 Nm which allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Outside-wise, both variants come standard with LED headlights, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights (DRL), automatic folding side mirrors, and 16-inch alloy rims for the Standard Range. Exclusive to the Extended Range variant are 17-inch rims, a panoramic roof, and a new white and black color scheme.

On the inside, the Standard Range variant come standard with a 12.8-inch touchscreen with intelligent rotation, 6-speakers, music streaming services, Apple CarPlay via USB, voice command, a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, portable key card, one-touch driver’s side power window with anti-pinch protection, and automatic air conditioning system.

Exclusive to the Extended Range variant is the addition of a 4-way electrically adjustable front passenger seat, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, a wireless mobile phone charger, a panoramic glass roof, and all-around one-touch power windows with anti-pinch protection.

Safety-wise, both variants come standard with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Intelligent power brake system, Predictive Collision Warning (PCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Emergency Lane Keeping Assist (ELKA), Lane Keeping Support (LKS), Lane Change Collision Warning (LCW), 360-degree camera system, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door opening warning (DOW), and Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
