Video: Ferrari 12Cilindri: 830hp V12 Grand Tourer – Coupe & Spider

Thought Ferrari won’t be making cars with naturally-aspirated V12 engines anymore after the 812 Superfast? Well, you are wrong there, as The Prancing Horse has just debuted the Ferrari 12Cilindri, which literally means 12 cylinders. Like many of the brand’s other models, this one is available in both Coupe and Spider variants.

Like its predecessor, the Ferrari 812, the 12Cilindri’s 6.5-litre V12 engine is mid-mounted and puts out 830 hp and 678 Nm. This is a whole 30 hp more than the 812 Superfast. The glorious mill can also rev all the way up to 9,500 rpm. Ferrari says the engine can have 80% of its torque ready from just 2,500 rpm, which contributes to instantaneous throttle response.

Paired with an 8-speed DCT gearbox, the Ferrari 12Cilindri can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, and go from a standstill to 200 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The Spider can do the same in 2.95 seconds and 8.2 seconds respectively, onwards a top speed of 340 km/h. Also, the Spider is just 60 kg heavier, and its roof can open and close in just 14 seconds.

Ferrari has done some weight optimisation work on the 12Cilindri. Among the efforts put in here include 40% lighter con rods made from titanium, a rebalanced crankshaft, an FL1-inspired valvetrain, and aluminium alloys for the pistons.

On the outside, the Ferrari 12Cilindri had taken inspiration from many of The Prancing Horse’s most iconic models. For instance, the black panel between its headlights pay tribute to the 365 GTB/4 or “Daytona”. It also looks much cleaner and simpler than the “angry”-looking 812.

Moving inside the Ferrari 12Cilindri, you get a properly modern cabin, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit at the centre. There is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard, along with a 1,600W 15-speaker Burmester sound system.

With the debut of the Ferrari 12Cilindri, it looks like Ferrari won’t be pulling its handbrake in making naturally-aspirated V12-powered cars, at least for the moment. Also, there’s more goodness regarding the car not mentioned here. For that, you will have to check out our video on this 12-cylinder masterpiece.
