Ferrari Purosangue launched in Malaysia, from RM5 million – 6.5L V12, 725hp

Ferrari’s first SUV, or as the company prefers to label it as its “first-ever four-door four-seater” – the Ferrari Purosangue has finally made its launch in Malaysia. Offered at a price tag of RM5,000,000, after taxes, duties, and before options, the four-seater sports car with the Prancing Horse badge measures 4,973 mm long, 2,028 mm wide, and 1,589 mm tall.

For comparison, the Lamborghini Urus from next door measures 5,112 mm long, 2,016 mm wide, and 1,638 mm tall. Despite those figures, the Ferrari Purosangue doesn’t look any larger than the discontinued GTC4 Lusso in real life, thanks to Ferrari’s clever design touches.

Besides helping the Purosangue look smaller than it actually is, Ferrari’s bosses also mentioned that those design elements also help in reducing drag. The ‘floating’ wheel arches, which help reduce turbulence around the wheels have also been finished in black or carbon fibre to seamlessly integrate itself into the car’s exterior.

Exterior kits that come with the Ferrari Purosangue in Malaysia are as follows:

  • LED headlights
  • Daytime running lights (DRL)
  • LED taillights
  • Carbon fibre roof

Powering the Ferrari Purosangue is a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine, paired with an 8-speed oil-bath F1 dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This results in a total of 725 hp and 716 Nm sent to all four wheels via a four-wheel drive system.

The 0 to 100 km/h with the Purosangue takes only 3.3 seconds, while going from 0 to 200 km/h can be done under 10.6 seconds. Its top speed on the other hand is rated at 310 km/h.

Ferrari has also given the Purosangue a series of advanced driving technologies. This consists of the brand’s latest iteration of the vehicle dynamic control system, together with the side slip control.

There is also a new active suspension system which uses the multimatic’s true active spool valve (TASV) system, mated to a 48V electric active-roll damping system.

Also included are the four-wheel steering, and ABS ‘evo’ with the 6-way chassis dynamic sensor (6w-CDS). The full technical and performance overview of the Ferrari Purosangue is as follows:

  • Engine: 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12
  • Max. power output: 725 hp
  • Max. torque: 716 Nm
  • Transmission: 8-speed oil-bath F1 dual-clutch transmission (DCT)
  • Drivetrain: All-wheel drive (AWD)
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.3 seconds
  • 0-200 km/h: 10.6 seconds
  • Top speed: 310 km/h

To maximise interior space, the Ferrari Purosangue has been built upon a purpose-built chassis, which reduces the overhang on both ends. Additionally, the chassis also helps deliver higher overall rigidity over the brand’s previous GT models, and is lighter than before too.

Ferrari says its four-door four-seater’s cabin has been designed to resemble a ‘sporty lounge’. Unlike most cars, the front passenger gets to join in the fun too as there is a secondary display for the passenger as well, with the instrument cluster binnacle mirrored onto the passenger side.

Also unlike many other cars is the lack of a central display in the Ferrari Purosnague. Well, Ferrari has ditched the traditional built-in satellite navigation system, and has gone all in with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which will be displayed on the driver’s digital instrument cluster display.

At the back are Ferrari’s first-ever full-sized rear seats, and to help passengers access them comfortably, the Italian sports carmaker has given the Purosangue a set of rear-hinged suicide rear doors, or welcome door as Ferrari calls it.

The doors can also open up to an aperture of 79 degrees thanks to an electronic mechanism. Behind the seats are also Ferrari’s largest ever boot, measuring a volume of 487 litres.
