Lexus LBX launched in Thailand – 1.5L hybrid, from approx. RM289k

If you’ve always wished that the European Toyota Yaris Cross was available in Southeast Asia, something pretty close to it has just been launched in Thailand and it is the Lexus LBX. Launched in 2 variants, the Thai-spec Lexus LBX is available in the “Luxury” and “Premium” trim.

The Lexus LBX Luxury costs THB2,229,000 (approx. RM289,265) while the Lexus LBX Premium costs THB2,390,000 (approx. RM310,158). However, a special price is being offered for the LBX during the Bangkok Motor Show, setting the Lexus LBX Luxury at THB2,190,000 (approx. RM284,204) and the Lexus LBX Premium at THB2,350,000 (approx. RM304,967).

Unveiled to the world back in June 2023, the Lexus LBX is a compact luxury SUV with a three-lettered name instead of the usual two-lettered name of Lexus models. It is built on the same GA-B platform as the European Toyota Yaris Cross.

It measures 4,190 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, 1,560 mm tall, and has a wheelbase that measures 2,580 mm long. Standard exterior equipment on the Lexus LBX include LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs) and 17/18-inch wheels. There are 9 colour options for the LBX with colours like Sonic Copper and Passionate Yellow available.

Powering the Lexus LBX is a hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 91 hp and 120 Nm and an AC synchronous motor that makes 80 hp and 141 Nm. The hybrid system has a maximum power output of 134 hp and it is paired with an E-CVT.

Inside, both variants of the Thai-spec Lexus LBX get a 9.8-inch head unit that supports wireless Apple CarPlay. Both variants also get a 6-speaker sound system, a wireless mobile phone charger, and a powered tailgate. The Luxury variant gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster while the Premium variant gets a 12.3-inch version. The Premium variant also adds paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Some of the advanced safety features on the Lexus LBX include Adaptive Cruise Control, pre-collision safety system, lane tracing assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also comes with a tyre pressure monitoring system and hill-start assist control. With the Lexus LBX now in Thailand, can we expect to see it in Malaysia soon?
