Genesis Magma performance division debuts – rivals AMG, M Division

Genesis, the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai has unveiled its new Magma performance division, with a Genesis GV60 Magma Concept set to enter production. The new division will be to Geneis like what Mercedes-AMG is to Mercedes-Benz and what BMW M is to BMW.

Upon its announcement, a few Genesis Magma cars have been unveiled by the brand. Displayed at the Genesis House New York, the Magma cars include the GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Magma Special, X Gran Berlinetta Concept, and of course, the GV60 Magma Concept. They are all shown in a “Magma” colour.

With the GV60 Magma concept being the one closest to production, Genesis has given a bit more information on this souped up version of its electric SUV. According to the company, the GV60 Magma has been given improved battery and motor technology. It has also been widened and lowered to allow for a lower centre of gravity.

Here is a summary of the upgrades received by the GV60 Magma Concept:

  • Improved battery and motor technology
  • Widened and lowered
  • Enlarged fenders and integrated wheelhouse outlets
  • Titanium-coloured 21-inch flow-formed wheels with integrated aero-discs
  • Roof fins to channel air into the rear wing

Genesis Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke said, “Genesis Magma presents an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury for new interpretations in high-performance vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing models exclusive to Genesis,”

“The brand will continue to reveal experimental concepts with careful consideration of both technological and aesthetic elements. While speed and performance are important, the Genesis Magma program will look beyond, prioritizing the driving experience to kindle the joy of sporty driving with effortless comfort.”

The GV60 Magma Concept, G80 Magma Special, X Gran Berlinetta Concept, and Neolun Concept will be displayed alongside other Genesis production models at the 2024 New York International Auto Show, slated to open to the public on March 29 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
