BYD Yangwang U9 launched in China – approx. RM1.1m, 0-100km/h in 2.36 secs

Remember the jumping supercar from China that made its rounds on the internet not so long ago? It has now been launched in China, and in case you forgot its name, it is the BYD Yangwang U9. Yangwang is BYDs high-end sub-brand and the U9 is its first pure electric supercar.

While it may look like an AI-generated supercar or something you’d find in a video game, the Yangwang is a full-fledged electric supercar with some staggering performance numbers to back up its “EV supercar” status. With 4 electric motors, the Yangwang U9 makes 1,300 hp and 1,680 Nm. This allows it to do the century sprint in just 2.36 seconds, onward to a top speed of 309.19 km/h.

That 4-motor setup that underpins the BYD Yangwang U9 is what the brand calls the “e4 platform”. This setup means each wheel gets its own electric motor and the car features agile and precise 4-wheel independent torque output control. The brand says that the e4 platform gives users the ultimate in safety, performance, and experience.

If you can recall the “jumping” showcase of the BYD Yangwang U9, that was enabled by the Disus-X Intelligent Body Control system. This system boasts a maximum adjustable suspension travel of up to 75mm and a peak single-axis lifting speed of up to 500mm/s.

But it’s more than just “jumping” if you’re wondering what the point of the Disus-X system is. According to BYD, the system also “delivers unparalleled driving experience in diverse driving scenarios like braking, acceleration, cornering, and road impacts, greatly enhancing vehicle agility and comfort for both driver and passenger”.

As for the EV numbers, BYD hasn’t revealed much about the BYD Yangwang U9, but it reportedly has an electric range of 465 km on a single charge. What BYD has shared is the fact that the U9 has fine-tuned its thermal management system to better resist high temperatures, resulting in a 100% increase in maximum cooling capacity. It can also be charged at a maximum rate of 500 kW.

Inside, the BYD Yangwang features a dual-cockpit design with a large center console segregating the driver and the passenger. Featuring only 2 seats, the Yangwang’s cabin isn’t as outlandish as what you’d expect from a typical supercar. It also has some BY essence in it, although not given full typical “oceanic treatment”.

Among the interior highlights of the BY YAngwang U9 are the tw0 14-way power-adjustable seats, a Dynaudio Evidence Series high-end audio system, a DiLink150 intelligent platform, and a near vertical centre console.

In China, the BYD Yangwang U9 costs RMB 1.68 million. That translates to about RM1.15 million.
