Set to be launched in Malaysia by the first half of 2024 is a new EV SUV by GAC Aion. Having inked a distributorship agreement with WTC Automotif, the GAC Aion Y Plus has been previewed in Malaysia.
It is an EV SUV about the size of the Honda BR-V, measuring 4,535 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height. Its wheelbase measures 2,750 mm long.

Exterior highlights on the GAC Aion Y Plus include its electric flush door handles, optional two-tone treatment, and charging port on its front fender. There are at least 7 exterior colour options for the Aion Y Plus.
Inside, the GAC Aion Y Plus comes with a 14.5-inch head unit and a full LCD instrument cluster. The head unit comes with a 360° panoramic view and is also capable of over-the-air (OTA) updates.

The variant of the GAC Aion Y Plus for Malaysia has not yet been confirmed. In a press statement, the GAC Aion Y Plus is said to have a battery capacity of 63.2 kWh. With its range hinted at either 490 km or 430 km (NEDC), two variants will likely be launched in Malaysia by the first half of 2024.
Its battery is the GAC Aion’s proprietary Magazine battery which the company says is the “world’s first Magazine Battery Safety Technology with no incidents of ignition or explosion, making it the safest battery technology in the world right now, setting a new standard for safety performance.

In a press statement by WTC Automotif, the company said, “This marks an exciting chapter in WTCA’s journey. The agreement will provide both parties with the opportunity to cooperate and study potential business opportunities to expand their respective Group’s foothold in the automotive industry in Malaysia.”
