Shell Recharge HPC station at Resorts World Genting to open early 2024 – 4X 360kW bays, RM2.80/kWh

Shell Recharge has unveiled its plan to set up an electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Resorts World Genting. Made possible through Shell’s strategic partnership with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia Berhad, the charging hub consists of 10 charging bays and will be ready by early next year.

The 10 charging bays are open for public use and comprise four bays of 360 kW high-performance charging (HPC) and six bays of 22 kW AC chargers. All chargers will also come with CCS Type 2 charging connectors. Porsche Taycan owners will be given 3 years of free subscription for the Platinum tier Shell Recharge Membership upon their new car purchase. This membership grants them a 50% discount at the Shell Recharge stations.

When the Shell Recharge Membership expires, Porsche Taycan owners can choose to renew their membership with the choice of the aforementioned Platinum tier, or the Gold tier which will grant them a 40% discount at the Shell Recharge stations nationwide.

This new EV charging hub will be the latest addition to the Shell Recharge EV network of 136 charging points strategically located in key cities and along highways in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Shell Recharge is transitioning to the per kWh pricing mechanism. The brand’s first charging station to utilise the new pricing mechanism can be found at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall.

Customers can now pay according to the new per kWh rates when using the brand’s AC charging throughout Malaysia starting November 1, 2023. The new kWh pricing mechanism for DC charging stations on the other hand will take effect beginning December 15, 2023.

The Shell Recharge model maintains a reservation fee and will implement an idle charge across different charging archetypes to prioritise the smart parking bays for EV owners.

With the new pricing mechanism, the 22 kW AC charger will cost RM1.30 per kWh. There will be no idling fee for the first 15 minutes. However, a RM2.00 fee will be charged with every subsequent 30 minutes of idling.

The 360 kW DC charger on the other hand will cost RM2.80 per kWh. No idling fee will charged for the first 15 minutes either, but a fee of RM10.00 will be charged with every subsequent 15 minutes of idling.

Customers can still reserve the parking bays in advance via Shell’s ParkEasy app. The app also comes with other features, including navigation access for EV customers to assist the drivers in locating available bays and a parking barrier to ensure the bay’s availability.

Shell Mobility Malaysia General Manager, Siow Lee Ming said, “With the addition of 10 charging bays at the hilltop of Resorts World Genting, we continue to make headway towards a continued commitment of enabling a net-zero transport solution in Malaysia. Soon, EV customers from all over the country and beyond will be able to drive their way up to this premier resort without having range anxiety, experiencing a worry-free journey with our Shell Recharge network.”

During the announcement of the tripartite partnership between Shell Malaysia, Porsche Malaysia, and Genting Malaysia Berhad, Sime Darby Auto Performance Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Hunter said, “Our partnership with Shell Recharge is a testament to our commitment to enabling long-distance, cross-border travel in an EV, connecting three countries – Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.”

The CEO added, “We are delighted to further elevate seamless charging experience for our Porsche Taycan owners, as well as other Porsche electric vehicle models on the horizon, with this new high-performance Shell Recharge 360kW DC charging hub in Resorts World Genting, providing ultra-fast charging speeds of just approximately 20 minutes for a complete 5-80% State of Charge (SoC).”

Genting Malaysia Berhad Real Estate Development and Project Senior Vice President, Gary Chen Wing Kong said, “We are honoured to be able to offer a high-performance EV charging hub to our guests. With the rapid adoption of EV cars in Malaysia and across the region, this will help promote sustainable tourism and provide convenience to our visitors up at Resorts World Genting.”

Aside from the upcoming HPC station at Resorts World Genting, the Shell Recharge charging network in Malaysia also consists of six DC fast charging stations located along the North-South highway which are capable of providing up to 180 kW DC charging.

The brand’s new charging station located at the Pavilion KL shopping mall capable of providing up to 60 kW DC charging will also be making its official launch soon. For more information regarding the Shell Recharge HPC at Resorts World Genting, you may visit Shell Malaysia’s website here.
