Purem & Aapico open new plant in Rawang, to supply exhaust systems to Proton

Joint venture partners – Purem by Eberspacher, a German Exhaust manufacturer, and Aapico, Thailand’s biggest automotive parts manufacturer have celebrated the official opening of its first plant in Malaysia. Located in Rawang, the new plant covers 4,000 square meters for the production of exhaust gas aftertreatment systems.

This includes hot-end components such as catalytic converters and manifolds, as well as cold-end components, which are mufflers and pipes. All of the components produced are said to feature highly automatic state-of-the-art technology.

The new Rawang plant will see around 100 employees producing and delivering approximately 400,000 components yearly for four Proton models. This includes the national carmaker’s Proton X50, X70, and X90 SUVs, as well as Proton’s upcoming sedan, rumoured the Proton S50. Purem Aapico is also planning to expand its business to supply exhaust systems to other brands in Malaysia.

While the plant will only be producing exhaust systems for passenger cars, Purem Aapico is also planning to expand its current 4,000 square metre plant to up to 7,000 square meters. This venture will contribute to the growth and development of Malaysia’s auto parts industry with the creation of new employment, introduction of leading technologies, and upskilling the nation’s workforce while delivering sustainable world-class exhaust systems to OEM manufacturers.
