Mazda CX-3 updated in Japan: 8.8-inch screen, Mazda Connect as standard

The Mazda CX-3 has just been given a new much-needed update in Japan. Among the update is a new 8.8-inch touchscreen display and Mazda Connect infotainment system which has now been made standard.

Mazda has also added a special edition trim known as the “Vivid Monotone”. The special edition trim is available for both the Japanese market 1.5-litre SkyActiv petrol (also known as the 15S) and the 1.8-litre SkyActiv-D diesel (also known as the XD), and has been added to give the nearly decade-old model a much-needed refresh.

Mazda says that the Mazda CX-3 Vivid Monotone is designed based on a stylish and urban concept. It features an Aero Grey Metallic exterior paint colour, a black roof, 18-inch black metallic wheels, along with plastic claddings.

Powering the Mazda CX-3 Vivid Monotone are the same engine options that power the rest of the existing variants. This includes the 1.8-litre SkyActiv-D 4-cylinder engine, which Mazda says now has improved output and torque performance. However, the carmaker has yet to provide any specific technical details.

The 1.5-litre SkyActiv 4-cylinder petrol engine continues to be offered. Mated to both engines is the same 6-speed automatic transmission.

Moving inside, the Mazda CX-3 Vivid Monotone’s interior design is said to be inspired by sportswear. However, the main update here is the new 8.8-inch central touchscreen display, as well as the Mazda Connect infotainment system which is now offered as standard throughout the CX-30 range.

The Mazda CX-3 Vivid Monotone is now available for pre-order via Mazda dealers throughout Japan. It is scheduled to be released by February next year (2024).

In Malaysia, the Mazda CX-3 is offered in three variants, and two engine options – the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre 4-cylinder SkyActiv petrol engines which send power to the front wheels only. The AWD and diesel variants are not available in Malaysia.

All CX-3 variants in Malaysia are still equipped with the smaller 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. The top-of-the-range 2.0L High variant also gets Wireless Apple CarPlay support. Prices for the Mazda CX-3 in Malaysia start at RM107,920 for the 1.5L 2WD Core variant and top out at RM131,559 for the 2.0L 2WD High variant. Both prices are on-the-road, without insurance, and without options.

What do you think about the Mazda CX-3’s update in Japan? Will this be coming to Malaysia soon? Only time can tell.
