Volvo Car Malaysia has unveiled a slew of updates to its range of vehicles for the 2024 model year, with new standard features introduced for specifically for the Recharge T8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, namely the XC90, XC60, S90, S60, and V60. The new updates are applicable starting September 2023.
The key update for the 2024MY refresh is the addition of a more powerful on-board charger, now accommodating up to 6.4 kW AC charging speeds when connected to a two- or three-phase power input. On single-phase charging, the vehicle will default to the 3.6 kW speeds, which is unchanged from before.
Aside from the PHEVs, all new Volvo models in Malaysia will also come with a new Vapour Grey colour option, while the panoramic sunroof is also now standard equipment across all 2024 Volvo models. The Volvo S90 Recharge now comes with a new eight-spoke wheel design, while the V60 Recharge and S60 Recharge PHEV will receive new six-spoke variants.
Inside, the ‘Google built-in’ infotainment system, powered by Android Automotive OS, have also been updated with the inclusion of a new YouTube app (only available when vehicle is stationary), alongside a new scheduled charging feature via the Volvo Cars mobile app.
The update will be made available to older Volvo models (with Google built-in infotainment system) via over-the-air software updates. On that note, all new 2024 Volvo models will come with five years of complimentary Digital Services, including access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store, and Volvo Cars app remote functions.
Here in Malaysia, all Volvo Recharge T8 PHEV models are equipped with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, paired to an electric e-Axle rear motor at the rear for a combined system output of 462 hp and 709 Nm – raised from before thanks to a recent update in 2022.
Electric power is supplied by an 18.8 kWh battery pack across the board, sufficient for a fully electric range of 77 km on the XC90, 81 km on the XC60, 82 km on the S90, and 90 km on the S60 and V60.
